An Unexpected Journey. Another Tie Bomber Build Thread.

So I have been distracted with a bathroom remodel for about 4 month.

Back to the TB. Amazing how much you forget but how fast it comes back.

Dig out the parts and remind myself where I left off

Started over with my cylinders.

Some dikum to mark the lines

After some carful cutting.

Test fitting cylinder parts and scribing next.

I wish I could help, I need another for a Ma.K project, they are well over the 60 dollar mark now I saw 1 for 125.00 this morning, yikes
Ya. That is why resin will be just fine for me. :)

If you don't mind using resin castings, I could send you copies of both.
PM sent. Thank you!

Glad to see this model out of the box :cool:(y)(y)
Yes it is. Have to remember all the things i forgot now.

Started scribing and recalling the trouble i saw on the other builds. I will get thru this...

Need some friendly advice.

I was drying my primer and in a hurry and got a little too hot. My upper Leopold plate warped. Not bad but obvious. (Blue area)

It is glued on real good. I have a spare plate but do not have spare Leopold side details as they would not survive an extraction.

Options are
1. Leave it be. Battle Damage.
2. Scrape it all off and source new detail parts
3. Cut it back at the orange line and graft in a new plate rear

Thoughts??

Otherwise working on scribe lines and awaiting a few parts.

I have some spare side details, so if you wanted to remove it and replace, I can send you those parts. Let me know!

Try with an clothes iron on low, put a piece of parchment paper between iron and plastic and move back and forth until flat;)

Successful extraction and repair. Stoked.

Was able to salvage the Leopold ladder in the extraction. That was surprising. Cut my new Leopold plate. The filled in grooves on the body will be covered so I will not dig that out.

I knew the Leopold side detail was not going to extract well and one did not.

Here is the successful repair. Left to right and comparing with the other side. Again stoked.

No need for spare parts. Thank you to those who offered.

Until my next mistake…

One of those “go for it” days.

I have been afraid to commit and mess up my preciously collected parts the last few weeks. Got past that today.

The results followed by the interesting details.

Obviously I fixed the main cockpit upper Leopold parts and remounted them. Thank you to the offers for parts. Appreciate the willingness to help.

I know one scribe line is crooked…. ☹️

Wing roots have had me stymied. Make or buy. I realized finally that I like building so just get on with it.

Turned some hubs on the lathe along with the base diameter. 3d printed some angle blocks and that was the start. Notice the huge gap on the bottom.

IMG_4940.jpeg

After some missteps in reducing the gap I settled on oil and bondo. Wiped down the wing with oil and packed bondo in. Trim and not too bad.

If I did it again I now know about free form epoxy from another builder but I think I am good enough.

IMG_4941.jpeg

Not bad…

IMG_4937.jpeg

Ugly but will work.

IMG_4942.jpeg

Bomber nose. Got my last Junyo part so let’s go.

Not sure if I am right or wrong. Read that the original was a milled slot thru to the outside of the plastruct disc so that is what I did.

Most builds are not this way and I know the end of the Junyo part may not show like this.

I may have to live with this. Oh well…

IMG_4943.jpeg

Harrier ejection seat work. Built up base and sculpted nose.

IMG_4935.jpeg

Fitting.

IMG_4934.jpeg

Cutting back the end so the Leopold part can mesh. If you look close I had to extend the rear of the Leopold part about 2mm to give the ejection seat a purchase surface. I am satisfied.

IMG_4967.jpeg

Mounted.

Next big hurdle are the wind details. So many details to do. Body is by no means done but thinking about wings.

Anyone have any info on Studio Scale cockpits. I know it was not in the filing model but the cockpit otherwise look so bare.
