YAFF - Yet Another 5 Footer Falcon Build

Daza007,
You continue to do incredible work. Using your drawings and 3D prints to proof my build. The accuracy in detail accomplished is an outstanding match to the kit parts. A large studio scale Falcon really is a beautiful model and does justice to the design. So many well thought out features for the eye to see.

Thanks so much. I love the mulitcolor option with the Bambu. Might have to make a purchase. :) I could never get such a finish with my Creality printers.
The multicolor option is a bit of a hassle, uses a lot of filament, as has to purge the filament between color changes.
I brought an AMS with mine, but really don't use it. the other issues with AMS, is most Filaments now come in cardboard rolls, so you need to print small edging rings to make them work with the AMS (Unless you buy Bambu Filament) and with the added width, generally you need to print with the AMS open a fraction.

They do have some other pretty nice features - like if you buy their own slightly dearer filament - each roll has an RFID chip in it, so when you insert the roll, it knows what it is, what color, and what the optimal print settings are, without having to do anything else

Printing has come a long way! Can't wait to see where the next five years takes us!

Love your pool table/work area...at least is always perfectly flat and solid(y)(y):p:p
I was actually using it as a print bench, nothing better than a super heavy slate base to put your printer on.
But the wife made me move it, as the noise was keeping the grand kids up at night ;)

Getting on to doing the turrets - so here's a test print to try and do the window with no supports - 1st attempt - massive failure.
But I did end up with a no support window - just needs a bit of sanding on the angles as they look a little rough

No, Mostly PLA+, I know its not a long term solution, but easier to proof stuff - At least it will get me an initial build, then I'll probably redo it in PETG or ASA for the long term Durability

Turrets are nearly complete - just finalizing the lower one - and just finished the gun, so will be splitting and printing that tomorrow

I reused my Hidden Dovetail method for locking these together - and it worked a treat - pictures below. Not glued yet, but should give you the idea.

I still can`t get over the resolution of those prints! Very impressive. I can`t wait to get my paws on the stps and stls for this model. Printing will need to wait until I get a new larger format fdm. Not sure which one is the best, tbh!

I have an Anycubic Kobra 2 Max that I used to print my interior support and frame on my build, I believe at the moment it's the largest print bed on the market at 420*420*500. I've not tried to print anything on that with any detail (like this build) but once you get it dialed in the prints are quite clean.

I use a Bambu P1S, so all of the prints are split to print on that build plate 256x256x256
If you are after a larger format - then Daves Kobra 2 Max seems to be the go to printer - heard nothing but good things about that one as well.
In fact I may buy one of those in the near future, just waiting to see if they bring out a Kobra 3 Max anytime soon

Cheers D
