It was just announced yesterday the tariff deal made between China and the US. Those lower tariffs don’t go into effect until tomorrow. Keep in mind TWC has no control over when Amazon UK decides to open up their listings to US shipping again, so that’s likely the “logistics” Chris was referring to they had to address. They're probably in talks with them to see when that can happen for their customers who are eagerly waiting for this.

Well…

I guess I can declare my Tricorder to be the first “dead” Tricorder.

My battery was at 5% so I plugged it into the charger in my office, overnight. On the status screen, it showed to be charging when I went to bed.

This morning, I unplugged it and opened the hood…it appeared to be in hibernation mode. I pressed the middle button….nothing. I tried again…nothing. I tried a third time…nothing. And a fourth…and a fifth…etc.

It’s dead, Jim.

I had a business trip right after I received this thing, that I just returned from. I think, all told, I had spent maybe 30 minutes using the Tricorder and hadn’t even gone through all the functionality…fastest product failure I have ever experienced. I suppose it’s karma for my nitpicks.

Very sorry to hear that. Email them at support@thewandcompany.com, I'm sure they'll send you a replacement (you'll have to ship yours back of course). I had the moire motor fail on a comm once, and Charlotte sent me a new one, and I sent the failed one back. I seem to recall she sent me a prepaid envelope for that, but it was a number of years ago so I can't be sure.

I had the moire motor fail on a comm once, and Charlotte sent me a new one, and I sent the failed one back. I seem to recall she sent me a prepaid envelope for that, but it was a number of years ago so I can't be sure.

That’s the problem…with all of their current problems, I am not even sure if I can get a replacement. :(

The tariffs won't affect their sending a replacement, which will come directly from them and not from Amazon UK. Since it's a defect replacement and you're not paying for it, it shouldn't trigger any tariff issues on entry.

By the way, just to be thorough, have you checked to see if the battery is seated properly? It could also be a defective battery, so you might try getting a replacement button-top 18650 on Amazon. That's what I would do prior to asking for a replacement, but of course YMMV.

Yeah, I agree. It’s likely the battery that is the issue. I could easily replace it, if it’s accessible.

I still think you should contact TWC and let them know what happened. I'm pretty sure they would want to know that you had a battery failure so soon after receiving it.
Assuming it was actually a failure and not just seated improperly. Personally, I'm planning on laying in some extra 18650 button tops with a charger as backups. They have some on Amazon that look OK, and Andrew Stockdale says 3.6V or 3.7V will do. They also have higher mAh values than the stock battery, so you can get longer life between charges.

That sounds like a good idea but I would be a bit hesitant to get a battery with a different mAh. I did that with my old cell phone and the higher capacity batteries never really worked well and seemed to loose their charge quicker than the stock battery.
