Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

My current is Will Turner from Pirates (POTC5 specifically). The build is done but I am struggling a bit on my diet so pics are very much getting delayed. I will need to pick a western character though as now, watching this thread, it just seems a bit daft on my part to have access to so much of the west within hours of my home but not have an outfit to go with it. It will be nice to shift gears and start a new build. As lame as I am for memory, I have access to wagons and never really thought about using them. It is really hitting me as funny now, my gpa was the trail security boss for the Centennial Wagon Train Re-enactment in 1959. My mom, my aunt and uncle were all children, dressed in period costume riding from Independence Missouri to Independence Oregon by actual wagons. Somehow it never struck me to do a build with a Western character.
Get ya west on bud ! Imagine doing this in uk! Your very lucky...

Funny enough I'm not a massive tombstone head but love all the guns&gear. The kolser bird's head is just a saa with a parrot grip but great for a costume ! Yes a western group ! Let's do it ...I'm a computer caveman with no skills so may need help ! BTW , I'm having a buntline holster made right now ... Pic of my computer non-compatible hands !
That’s super cool :) I’m no computer guy, hell, I have trouble posting here half the time

It’s past time you get your Cowboy vibe on :)

Doc’s Walking Stick

After spending more time than I would like to mention for Doc’s walking stick, I finally came up with something that was pretty close to what Val used in the movie (for a five seconds). The funny thing about this walking stick is that Doc gave it to Virgil and he carried to the shootout, but on the movie poster they are both carrying shotguns to the shootout… LOL

This is a great addition. This allows you to carry a screen accurate prop in settings where the shotgun would not be allowed.... dinner, Conventions, etc. and is a beautiful cane to boot.

Thank You greenmachines :) I figured I just needed it just incase someone wanted to mention it……. LOL Plus I’m not getting any younger, so I may actually need it one day ;)

Stick makes the character ... When it's traded for the shotgun historic accounts say a wells Fargo meteor , prob correct as that company bought lots of European cheap shotguns ... Meteor was just a re-sell trade name . People however may be mixing it up with Doc's own sawed off ! Page 149 of Age of the Gunfighter describes such guns ...

I’m not really sure what shotgun Val used in the movie, as I have read all kinds of stuff and when compared to the screen grabs they just didn’t match up.

Since my Doc Holliday is based on Val’s portrayal of Doc I only buy what Val had. I really don’t care to much about what the real John Henry Holliday had or used, as every time someone talks about Doc Holliday I just picture Val…… LOL

Below are photos of my shotgun, which actually is from the 1800’s :) The barrel was much longer originally but I cut it down to 20 inches as I’m pretty sure that was the barrel length of the shotgun used in the movie :)

That is a pretty gun, regardless. I had to come to a hard stop on some of my research as well, when it continued to show a disconnect from history or even from scene to scene. In my most recent costume build, I finally had to just say "This one screenshot is what I am making. " This decision had to be made because the equipment was changing within ONE SCENE. The colors and prop continuity were grossly off between different camera angles of the same completed and edited scene. That is when I realized I was NOT going to research the intended date and historic time as it would likely eliminate the screen used sword as it was a very specific year model. Too many completed builds that I see online that don't match the intended scene because of all the misguided efforts of the prop department from the film. Not accurate historically, not accurate per witness accounts, not accurate within the movie's continuity (your walking stick vs poster shown shotgun) and finally, you just have to choose where you take your final stand. Mine was to pick one frozen moment in the movie's final scene, yours, ironically, will be at the OK Corral.
