Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

Not that I knew this existed but is this shirt prebuilt with suspender guide loops? Is that a historic thing?
Never saw that design in older/newer shirts either. Army/Navy/Air Force neither. Must've been an added design by the costume dept.
When thinking of it; suspenders should be easily removed from your shoulders. These loops are making for an interesting look...but it's not practical in the end. Unless it's part of his holster rigs:unsure:

I think you are spot on with the costume dept. but it would be cool if gunfighters had custom tailored clothes.

I think it would've been possible that, over the years, some gunfighters had customized their clothes (and holster/rig/guns) to their personal likings.
How to shoot real fast with a long coat for example? Modify some aspect of the coat to do so is not so far fetched (or other clothe items).;)
Historical photos show clearly that the holster/gun part was at the front and high on the rig, not on the side. Same with a second holster/gun combo. That's why I liked the series 1923 showing exactly that type of set-up.

Your stuff is top shelf!

Visited Tombstone in March. If going, make sure to see the Gunfighters Hall of Fame on one of the backstreets. Lot's of (alleged) Tombstone film-used props. Grain of salt. Fun place, nonetheless.

Some of Doc's real stuff (again, alleged).

Hey Probe Droid, Thank You for the VERY KIND words, I don’t know if my stuff is Top Shelf, but it’s definitely going to get there if I have anything to say about it…… LOL

I’m not to much of a historian, but if I were to bet some heavy money if these items were really truly Doc’s, I would say they weren’t, based upon the fact that the display they are showing of Val’s stuff is NOT what he used in the movie, in fact, none of this stuff is. I think sometimes people just put stuff together to either fool people and or to make money off people. Just my unprofessional opinion ;)

Wyatt Earp had a coat with a holster built into the pocket so he could go heeled without looking armed. So, yeah, guys did customize their clothes.

Agreed. The museum (if you want to call it that, it was two rooms) is a tourist attraction that's fun enough, but I, too, was quite skeptical of the authenticity of the displays. Some of the cowboy stuff might be legit, but you know how much movie props/costumes sell for now, so for this little place to have so many Hollywood originals seemed a stretch.

I do believe that the guys that played the extras of the Cowboys and I think some of the towns people were actually a group of guys that lived around that area and were known as the Buckaroos??? So, I could see some of that stuff being in there as they used a lot of their own personal stuff (from what I have read). However, the main cast Wardrobe would not be in there, UNLESS an actor or the studio donated it, which is pretty unlikely, but then again, stranger things have happened…… LOL

The Tale of Two Whiskey Cups

After seeing Tombstone for the first time I knew that someday I would eventually build me a Doc Holliday wardrobe, I just didn’t know it was going to take me 30 years to get here, oh well, better late than never in my book…… :)

The first thing I started looking for was Doc’s famous whiskey cup, and after searching for it for years, I finally came to the conclusion that it would have to be custom made, so that’s exactly what I did.

I found a company that was overseas that said they could make it for me, but it wasn’t going to be cheap. Now since I am a guy that has to get things close as humanly possible, and I knew this journey wasn’t going to be done on a short budget, I told them to do it. They did ask me if I wanted to have the cup collapse, but I opted out of this as I didn’t want the cup to leak. After a few months I received my cup (the cup on the left in my photos). To me (and probably only me) this cup is the closest I will ever get to owning the original cup. The only difference that I can tell between this an the original screen used cup (which I hear Val still has) is that the original had some sort of writing on the bottom of the cup and mine does not. The cup was expensive (as I could have gotten a really nice hotel room and a really nice steak dinner for what I paid for this cup back then), but I was glad I did it…. :)

Now this brings me to my second cup, I became friends with a guy on Facebook (because where else do people meet these days…. LOL), and he made Doc cups. Well, not one for just wanting one cup I bought one from him for a very easy to do $70, and in three days I had a really nice Doc cup again. This cup is slightly different than my first cup which I think is closer to the movie, but it’s a lot heavier than my first cup, which makes this cup very easy to twirl :) Now I have heard stories that Val’s cup was very light in weight like my first cup I had made, and they had to add weight to the cup (I heard they attached a silver dollar to it) so it would spin for is unforgettable scene.

I will use my first cup when I get to pretend I am Val/Doc, and I use the second cup when I go to the Casinos as we will say I like to get dressed up for these occasions ;)

I honestly get excited, like I am 6 again, when someone invites me to an event where one of my past costumes will work or will work with a bit of adjustment to civilian life. I am in no way an attention hog as I get very nervous around people. They likely can't tell but it drains me, heart and soul. But I just love putting together the rigs and getting everything to look totally urban casual, like it was exactly what was expected at this event. I can't stand being bored in any surrounding so I just need even a partial excuse.

The cups are both impressive. I believe in the glimpse factor (passing glance) for convincing even the super fans but for rpfers, special effects pros and the like, the ability to consider it screen accurate and usable on the day of the movie shoot is the goal and your cup with absolute minimal decoration and an edge worthy of cutting your lip off, looks screen accurate. It also seems to be the only one I can find that got the handle right. I say kudos again. The bottom may have something but I cannot find any clearer images so, for source material available, this looks as close as can be without adding stuff that would be guessing at detail.

Thank You greenmachines :)

I love dressing up and getting into character, but I guess I have always been an attention getter, so the more the people I attract, the happier I get. I guess I’m an attention whore…… LOL

I am very pleased with both of my cups as both are completely 100% usable with zero percent of cutting my lip, and they don’t leak :) Although either isn’t 100% movie correct, they will do until someone has the ability to copy the original.

What characters to you do in your dress up/Cos Play?

Range is huge, Qui Gon, Jack Sparrow (I think this one is required by law or you don't get to join), Kyle from last man Standing, Hugh Glass (The Revenant), Richard Petty. Usually picked by someone else as a challenge. Most are here on therpf but I always have 3 or 4 in the works and try to use what I can for my daily wardrobe so the wife doesn't see it as "a total addiction". It only convinces me, of course, because she still sees the truth behind my attempted ruse. It is very tempting, now, to do a western character because I could use all of it at any partially to fully formal event. I might even convince my wife for the first time that it is really just some nice suit.

As Vader said, Impressive, most impressive :)

I really don’t have the time or the energy to keep coming up with new characters to build, but with that said, I have a pretty nice little John Wayne setup with more on the way…… LOL

That already eminates his stance and that with only a stand display. There are a good six or seven scenes portrayed here. That would be a very full day of posing and pics. At the right getaway, this would cover a vacation's worth of outfits.

I have been told I should open a museum on my John Wayne and Doc Holliday collection…. LOL

My plans are to get every shirt made Duke wore. Why? I guess because I’m touched in the head :)

there was a Greg Peck film where his long duster was pulled out the way on fishing line by a prop man as he drew his Iron ! Billy Two Hats I think ...
