Ryan Gosling 'K' - Blade Runner 2049!

Hey fellas, I thought I'd share that vid that Shahrooz mentioned earlier of a SR customer giving review/overview of the coat as well as outlining how he added some magnets. Some interesting feedback. It's really great how this guy took the time to make this review.

(EDIT: just seeing how this link is not working... It's an 'unlisted' YouTube video and may have some sort of restriction for posting. PM if anyone's interested in seeing it and I'll email you the link).

Just as a follow-up to my post about repositioning the SR collar to be more screen accurate, as this screencap picture clearly shows how the collar over-extends on the short side. The movie coat has the collar placed one inch beyond the shoulder panel seam. Again, this is what also makes the collar more flush against the neck and hence, less floppy.

WSL's collar also overextends, including a very odd detached edge.

Incidentally, this last pic shows just how much the WSL coat changes in with heavy waxing. Night and day.

That was my point exactly about waxing. Thanks for this. Also, yes this video was critical in my selection process between the various coats. The guy himself was also very helpful in answering questions and providing feedback. Next week is the big moment - collar goes back on my SR.

Hi everyone. Just some quick thoughts regarding the hook-and-eye aspect to the coat, which hasn't been addressed fully, I think...
I bring it up because the guy in the SR video that I mention above, appears to sidestep the hook-and-eye altogether in place of the magnets, which he happens to have lined up separately.

I'd just like to point out that they should, in fact, work together. As seen in the movie coat below, the hook-and-eye are lined up with the magnets, so essentially, the former acts as as an anchor to secure that part of the coat that wraps around along with the magnets:

like i said, the magnets he used in that video are just way too big IMO.

Thanks for the video link.
IMO you and Shahrooz should each do something similar for your coats.

we just might :) speaking of which, the SR is almost done fingers crossed. Saw it on Wednesday night and it's only missing one pair of magnets and closing the lapel. Collar is back on and exactly where Mechanismo has consistently specified in terms of correct location.
Looking forward to seeing this. May SR is scheduled to arrive in two days. So excited to see it next to the revised Magnoli......

Great news. Hope you like it. It won't have that wax on it that you dont like though I got to tell you waxed cotton is something special if done right. Can't speak for Magnoli but Barbour and Belstaff waxed cotton is phenomenal. Will have to do a detailed review of the SR though I'm sure Mechanismo would do a better job in breaking down the many changes we did to the SR. Overall, I think it came out very nice. We'll see the final product soon

I don't want to de-rail, but came across this jacket on Reddit.

Hadn't heard of any specific inspiration for the 2049 jacket, but this may be it. View attachment 1523986View attachment 1523987
possibly. Rene April has stated that she took the original Deckard coat that you worked on as part of the inspiration. You can see traces of it in the Officer K coat's DNA. Also, I think she also took a hard look at the coat Roy wears, particularly its collars, as source material. This certainly looks like it could have been part of that formula also.

That's a good point about Batty. It's certainly hard to imagine the Officer K coat without its characteristic shearling, but from what Rene April has let on, it wasn't even considered for the original coat. Later on, when it came time for costume testing/fitting with Ryan Gosling, apparently he's the one that suggested adding the shearling. So essentially, we might have seen a coat with a similar pattern but no shearling, as the production design sketches show. It's such a pity that they haven't published any behind-the-scenes photos of these early test fittings. Perhaps we'll see them someday...

Hello friends

Here it is, better late than never. Just a teaser until I pick it up and can take more detailed shots but this is it. Notice the shifted collar, the new shearling, the magnets, the two sets of shoulder pads on each side and just the overall change in appearance.

Dang........ Anyone remotely thinking about a version of this coat should buy the Uniqlo coat now for the shearling.

Looking terrific, Shahrooz! Congrats! It's been a long, rocky road to get there, but totally worth it.

Honestly, there is no way I could have done this without your tireless assistance and guidance. I know you're much too humble to admit it, but you were really the mastermind behind all this. Yeah, I did some of the legwork, particularly on the shearling, but it was really your blueprint that I followed. Given that it is the season to be thankful and kind to one another, regardless of whether one celebrates Christmas or not, I just wanted to acknowledge your contributions here. In a way, this was a team effort by everyone on this forum and I for one have really enjoyed our discussions here. In the end, all these coats are great looking and are just different. In terms of paying it forward, happy to provide assistance to anyone who has or is thinking about an SR coat. I will also email SR as promised and show them the many significant changes and improvements. I will encourage them to incorporate these into their lineup either as revisions OR as a third alternative, call it the SA version of the officer K coat (in addition to the two existing versions of the coat they currently have). But it boils down to support and pressure on the company so they really need to hear from YOU once I've sent my email. If more people tell them that they will buy a (or another) jacket if the proper changes are implemented, I am sure they would consider changing the shearling or moving the collar etc. It's worth a shot to save future fans and buyers the hassle of having to put this together yourself as well as the significant cost associated with it. Thanks everyone and happy holidays

Are you planning to distress the shearling? Or just let it wear naturally?
