i think people would really benefit if they invested the time to read the prior posts here. I understand it takes a lot of time but it saves a lot of frustration on the back end. All of these issues have been extensively covered here in the past few years and particularly in the past year (again to some extent). In our discussions re the SR, we clearly outlined the pros and cons of the coat (as well as the other coat). SR never claimed that it has shoulder pads. They are too rigid with respect to change orders but they are also very transparent (unlike some of the other coat makers here who shall go nameless). We knew we had to add shoulder pads to the SR to complete the look. Even as revised, I dont think the Magnoli is SA.
Mechanismo did a very detailed report highlighting why the Magnoli falls short on several fronts. To me personally, the lapels are just too small and way off. The most SA coat that currently exists is the custom-made WSL in my opinion (per M's instructions). Given the precise dimensions that Mechanismo has provided, WSL was able to measure and produce a coat that is as SR as possible using waxed cotton. As noted, there may be several versions of the coat in the movie, but taking the most frequently used version as the baseline (pun intended), the custom-made WSL is the closest thing to it as evident in Mechanismo's pictures of his coat. However, a heavily altered SR in my mind comes even closer and may look even better, no offense. Because the WSL is made from the same material as the Magnoli (and in the same country in turns out), they are by and large identical when it comes to material and appearance. I own a custom made WSL and it looks good. It will look a lot better once I wax it and replace the shearling. No coat maker has gotten the shearling right. Unwaxed, the WSL (and the Magnoli or Zlurpo etc) looks like a cosplay item. It basically looks like a cotton coat with a strange looking collar that fanboys will recognize as cosplay coat. Waxing it will give it the heft and gravitas it needs to be a real coat. Still, it does not approximate the SR. The SR has hands down the best material. The use Italian cotton (the coat is made in Italy not India, just fyi) and apply acrylic to it to create the same painted laminate feel and look of the real coat. the result is superb. The fading, heft and quality are easily noticeable. There is no comparison between the two because, bottom line, the original coat is not a waxed jacket. As good as the WSL or Magnoli are (and I prefer the WSL over the Magnoli - if I'm going to buy an Indian made coat, I'd rather pay less than half of Magnoli's price AND still get customization, especially if I am going to have to replace the shearling no matter what) they will never achieve the laminated look. That's just my two cents but I will soon share pictures of an SR coat with heavy alterations: shearling replaced, magnets installed, collar removed and reinserted in the proper location, shoulder pads added. I will then replace the shearling on my WSL and wax it. very curious to see the comparison but I know i will love both - they are just different.
