Does anyone have the Vader reference CD?

I never thought my request for the original Vader reference disc would lead to the formation of an entirely new project........kinda cool actually. B)
[/b]

Ya....look at the mess you got me into LOL ;)

Hmmm....take a 1000x600 pixel image at 1000dpi, make it a PNG and you get 1.1MB image whereas JPEG at highest quality is 436kb....the same as a TIF is 1.9MB. I examined the final quality and they are nearly identical....I think the main thing will be the starting quality of the image....and as long as I keep the JPEG quality at or near maximum (least amount of compression)...we should be fine....plus most anything opens a JPEG...with PNG you have a choice of interlaced or not...what's that about? TV image?

sure thing...although for now lets hold off with "I want one too" posts for now please......we can finalize the categories first and once I have it all together then I'll start an interest thread...sound good?....it's already clear there will be many people who want one :)...even if only a few it will still be a nice project....

Sounds like JPEGs are the way to go and I don't think going that route will sacrifice quality. Approximately how long do you think it will take to put something like this together? Obviously you have to collect all the images from everyone that's going to send them to you and then get them organized which I imagine will be the most time consuming part of the project. Will you set some sort of deadline when pictures need to be submitted? I can burn my disc of images and get it out to you by next week with no problem so just let me know how you wish to proceed.

Finally the Berlin Wall of the RPF is coming down. :) May I add that since this DVD is being made by RPF members for RPF members, we should have a small portion of the proceeds given back to this forum to keep 'er up and running.

I'm guessing a couple of weeks at least. I'm not in a big rush with this, just want to make sure it's a nice collection. Donation is nice idea, although I've already donated this year....I think if anything....if someone gets a DVD and they are new here it might encourage them to throw $5 into the RPF pot....I'm doing this for the RPF, it's not an RPF product.

I was actually figuring it would take quite a bit longer so it's good to hear that it won't take nearly as long as I thought it would. :thumbsup

When saving jpgs, be careful not to do it too much. The image quality degrades with every save, unless you're converting the image from big to small. The tif format does not degrade when saved over again. Just something to think about when dealing with images.

thanks for the advice....no worries....I have quite a bit of experience with digital imaging/image manipulation, etc. ..... :)

As have I. I agree that if you haven't donated yet this may be a good inspiration to do so.

Can't wait to get this started.

Ok just threw this together....feel free to provide suggestions for menu topics :).

Wow, that's a pretty good layout so far. I definitely think you were the right person to put this together, Thomas. B)

Well, I've glanced over this thread but due to some other stuff life has dished out lately, I haven't had a chance to take it all in.

I'd just like to say a HUGE "Thanks" to Thomas, for taking this on... I know it's a mamoth task so, If I can assist at all on this I'll do my best to help.

Cheers,

Kraig

Very nice layout so far Thomas. :thumbsup I'm guessing the threads will also be broken down to found parts, comps etc. The Sithlord vs Gino thread was one of the best I've ever seen on any forum. :)

Thanks guys, glad you like the organization so far...which means now I can start filling the folders :)....ya good idea about creating subheadings for the forum threads since they will relate to costumes showoffs, helmets, or found parts, or even controversies. I have every major Vader-related thread saved from here going back since I rejoined...but not sure if I would include all of them :eek

Just had another idea....under the costumes heading there could also be "Vader displays", and "Vaders in Action"...to distinguish between Vader displays and costuming Vaders....

So each of these would have their own folder/subfolder on the DVD....again nothing fancy with menus, just go into the main folders to find the subtopics....

If anyone has something they think is unique or has nice scans, nice screencaps of good views of Vader, or would like their costumes included on the DVD, or if you have good convention photos or SW exhibit photos, feel free to email me. I'll put my email in my profile....EDIT: it's under yahoo profile...just add @yahoo.com. Don't want those automatic email finders to get it from here :p

I've added Conventions.....so Vader standing with hot babes. :D :love ....or with other cool characters....

And what I'll do is, as the DVD grows in size, I'll post updates with just the total size in MB or GB of material....kind of a like a raffle :lol

Considering this is a non-profit venture, how would people think about whomever gets one of these DVDs, they could also donate an extra $5 to Wayne's Kids' fund or the RPF fund? Sort of as a nod of appreciation for the RPF and what it stands for. This is not an RPF product of course, but I still like the idea of giving something back to the forum....any thoughts about this?

Good idea :thumbsup
Hell, I would donate to both :)

I really like that idea. It would be great to differentiate between moving costumes and static displays. :thumbsup

Great work so far Thomas. I love the layout. If I think of anyhting to add Ill certainly let you know, although you seem to have covered all bases. :D

A donation to Wayne's Kids sounds good to me. Or maybe we could go 50-50 with Wayne's Kids and the RPF fund, whatever works.

Looks like this initiative is starting to gain momentum....excellent. I'll contribute whatever I have....just ask.

As far as donations...I already gave to the RPF fund...so personally I'd rather see the proceeds go to Wayne's kids....just cut them a check. That said, costs of production should be covered as well so Thomas isn't taking any $ out of his own pocket. Perhaps a rough costing breakdown could be posted so all bases are covered....then everyone is sure what amount goes to Wayne's kids....

Eithee way, I'm in for one....
