Does anyone still do cardstock builds?

When detemined enough, people will find ways to make stuff.

I make helmets by starting off with aluminum foil on my head. 2-4 layers.

Not only does it keep the voices out and prevent aliens from reading your mind, it makes for a perfect fit helmet! You don't need padding if it is for your head. Everyones head is a little bit assyemetrical.
Wrap it with Duct tape and VIOLA! you have a basic helmet.

I like Freeform Air to cover the foil, and then sand it to your liking! If you just do foil and clay, you can bake it solid.

I made green lantern mask for myself and some kids with Saran Wrap over my face and their face, the sculpt the mask out of FreeForm air. Perfect fit.

Since I wanted copies, I made a mold and bunches of copies.

Is this going to be a display model or is the intent you are going to wear it? A lot costumers went this route by using cardstock for the base and then laying down fiberglass cloth with the resin to harden the model and then finish off by applying bondo over the outside with copius amounts of sanding and reapplication of bondo to create a helmet/costume that could be worn. I did this a few times long ago but the thought of sticking my head inside a helmet that had fiberglass cloth/resin was something you had to be careful by ensuring no pieces came close to the skin. The foam method of building costumes/helmets was much more simpler than the resin/bondo method and good results could be done if you took your time with assembly.
This helmet will be strictly for display. However, it does fit my head, so I guess I could just put it on every once in a while to scare my toddler.

Progress photos attached. Rondo on the inside was tough. This thing is deep and has a strange shape.
