An RPF Open Source 5 ft Millennium Falcon Build/Reference Thread. All Are Welcome

So here's a question. I'm getting ready to lay out this part. Is the green part an actual kit piece or is it just styrene?

That's what I was planning on doing, taking a thicker piece of styrene and shaping it. I haven't come across anything that resembled it in my kits, and don't see it marked out or mentioned in any of the research I've come across.

Just came across a video of Dave Fogler talking at a conference in Italy about the 5 footer and creating the digital version for Force Awakens. Not sure if I learned anything new, but it was a good watch if you can get past the slow cadence due to the waiting for translation.

Gathering data of the Five footer starts at around 19:00. And the Force Awakens digital build starts around 44:00. There’s some photos of the 5 footer strewn throughout the video beginning to end.

Figured I’d post for those who hadn’t come across it yet.

At 17:09 in this video there are six historical ILM still shots lined up in a stack of three on top and three on bottom.

Anybody have a digital copy of the center top row photo? I've seen and/or have all the others, but would love to carefully peruse and zoom in on that middle top one. Please post it here or PM me if you're willing. Thanks!

Just came across this little tidbit of information…

Apparently the ILM sound team went to the Osh Kosh air show (in Wisconsin) in 1976’ish to record sound for A New Hope. They recorded some P-51’s as sound for the Falcon. The info that caught me most though is that ILM sent the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) a model of the Falcon after the movie came out which they still have, and I would assume is still on display at EAA’s museum up there. They assume was used during filming, but aren’t sure what scenes it may have been used in.

When I first saw the story I got my hopes up it was another big model of the Falcon that I could go visit and get some photos of for research for my build, but it seems to be a much smaller model than the 5 footer. I’m only about 2 1/2 hours from Osh Kosh and would totally drive up to see it. Even if it is a small model, and the yearly air show is coming up here soon, so maybe I’ll go up there this year and check it out.

Does anyone have any info on which model it is that they have, and if it was used during filming ANH at all? Just curious.

Here’s a link to the story which has a local news broadcast with video of the model itself.

Thanks for sharing that story Jason! Enjoyed watching it :)

I‘d be damned if that does not look like an old MPC kit, pro paint job, with modifications like thinner plating panels. Looks good in the video!

On a side note, I can’t join later either, sorry.

I knew the Falcon sound was a P-51 and there was only one Falcon was made for Star Wars, being the 5ft Falcon. This gifted Falcon was NOT used in the original film and is actually the MPC kit that came out in 1978 AFTER the film's release. If anything it COULD have been used in The Empire Strikes Back but even then that is doubtful since three other smaller Falcons were build for Empire, the 32in, 8in and 2in versions.

Thanks for that. That's what I had figured only having ever heard about the five footer being the only actual filming prop for the first movie, and them barely having enough time to build the model for shooting after changing things up at the last minute. After reading into it a little bit (barely thus far), it seemed that EAA may have received the model from ILM before MPC had released their version of it in 1979 (or so I thought), so I was wondering what it may have been. Maybe ILM did receive a kit from MPC before releasing it, and they painted one up for EAA. I had never heard about this before, and a bit of local lore I guess. I've been up to the air show quite a few times in my lifetime and had never seen this, that I remember anyway.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know if the 5 footer is out on display anywhere right now? Seems to be that it's locked up in the archives at the moment as I haven't seen anything lately about it being on tour somewhere, but was hoping there's some info out there I haven't seen yet. Have separate vacations with unplanned locations as of yet coming up with my daughter for getting her BA, and then the wife. Was thinking if I could find it somewhere, I could subliminally mention a vacay location and sneak a trip in to see it during either one, without mentioning it! Shhh... LOL

I must be bored...

LOL. Obi_Wan as Uncle Jesse, Lando as Cooter and Boba as Rosc'OOOOOO Purvis Coltrane! Gkhuh-gkhuh-gkhuh-gkhuh... And Jabba as Boss Hogg. LOL

I'm not too sure about any of this casting, but Luke as Enos... Can you imagine Boba running around yelling at Luke, "Enos! You done scuffed all the chrome off my bumper! You dipschtick!" And who, or what in SW could or should be cast as Flash? We can't be having any of this without Flash! Haha!

Does anyone have a good scan of the Amt Astro 95. It's used on the Five Footer and the Galactica. Appreciate it if anyone has it, thanks,

Joe
