4' (AKA 5 foot) Falcon build

A bit of continued work on the cockpit area. This is taking a lot longer than I'd envisioned.

The Morgan Roadstar floor and seats have been modified. The photo below also shows a very incomplete centre console section.

I've created a small circuit board with connectors to try and keep things tidy. I know that ILM just twisted wires together and used electrical tape, but I wanted things a little cleaner. Most of the LED's and fans run off 12VDC but a couple of things are better at 6VDC, so I built a small voltage divider. I suppose I could have used 12 everywhere and just used bigger resistors.

RealDaveWinter,
Kudos to you on sticking to the approach of replicating the original cockpit. The use of circuit boards to greatly simplifying wiring follows many other techniques applied in your thread describing the build.

The centre console is pretty much complete now.

I've tried to construct it with the same parts breakdown as the original, using photos to show me where the different parts join together so I can match those joints on my build. The original used a small halogen light to shine up through the centre, but I'm using a bright white LED. It's not correct to 76 version, but it will last longer and is safer.

It's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

The port sidewall of the cockpit has a "lower console" with a sort of clock thingy on it. Does anyone have a clear photo of the starboard sidewall?

I'm trying to see if both sides have this lower console or not.

thanks

I don't. I don't think it's really possible for that part of the cockpit to be photographed when the model is on public exhibition. You'd have to be very high up looking down, and fans wouldn't be permitted to do that.

The closest I've seen is this, which shows that the sides weren't entirely symmetrical.

Here a collection of snips of images by curtsey of Alan Anderson, swgeek, raiders. Local contrast enhanced!

Not one clear shot but some pieces of the puzzle.

Love your cockpit!

Thanks, those bottom two are helpful. They do seem to indicate there's 'something' down there and I'd guess those would be pretty similar to the port side.

I'm sure as soon as I finish it, someone will jump out of the dark with some long lost photo showing the real thing and yell 'Gotcha! It's wrong!'

Another small update on the cockpit. This time all the back console lighting is in place. Yes, I'm using LED's where ILM used light bulbs, but ILM only needed their model to work for one movie. I'd like mine to last longer than a couple of months shooting schedule.

Need to sort out if I'm using LED's for the side consoles or use fiberoptics like ILM did. I'm not sure yet.

These arrived today. Worse condition than I expected and now I'm trying to figure out how to resuscitate them.

I'd really rather use original decals, but if worse comes to worse, I could use these as a template to screen print a new set. But I'd rather not.

Based on the scant few photos that show the cockpit rear lower 'instrument panels' (especially the starboard side), these are the patterns I've come up with. If anyone can offer corrections, I'd appreciate it.

thanks

Great work, thanks Dave! Really tricky to figure those out. I had a few minutes and tried also to align the few references available, now my brain hurts. Please consider just as a suggestion:
