The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

That makes perfect sense. We don't see it rotate on the tricorder, but we do on the bridge, and that one is backlit when moving. How good of a look do we ever get at the clockwork moire on the communicator?
I get it. I guess my beef is that I see 3 white spots behind the moire. If it was evenly lit, I think it would be fine.

Then again, at my lighting at home, it may just look different.

But again, I knew I was going to be blown away by this, but hadn’t anticipated this level of awesome.

I had an email conversation with Chris Barnardo and he said the latest idea is that when the moiré is set to manual, i.e. the position determined by the user, this will also deactivate the backlight.

I also asked about the scanner sound effect but he hasn’t answered yet.
It REALLY has to have the scanning noise. Can you imagine the Tricorder with all this functionality, yet it doesn't have the basic sound we want from it? (In conjunction with our phaser and communicator.)

I also notice in the videos that he hasn't mentioned the SD Card slot, which you can see on the left side of the hood.

Looking at the Engineering screen in Your Geek Fix's video, one tidbit there is that the SD Card slot seems to still be in play.

The SD card is visible on the left hand side of the hood when raised (which is the "logical" place for it to be, although it ruins the purity of the screen-used accuracy...but then, so does the USB charging port. I'm fine with it.)

But seriously though--not having the scanning sound would definitely be a missed opportunity. It's kind of essential.

I just watched the vid and had to come say coooooolllllll! I haven’t gotten any emails in a while and I registered interest day one. Anybody else? I don’t want to miss this and not have the set!

Did you check your spam folder? I got one on the 29th, update #20, announcing the Adam Savage video.

Not having the “scanning” sound is no big deal, to me.

I learned how to make the “scanning” sound when I was 5 years old and had a block of wood with a stapled-on strap for a Tricorder.

I’m pretty confident that I can still make the sound again when waving around the Wand Tricorder.

;)

In all seriousness, the MR tricorder’s “scanning” sound is so ear-piercing and irritating that I never turn it on.

I would re-register. I had stopped getting emails as well so I just went back to the site and re-input info and voila I started receiving updates again.

Hello,

My name is Jeromy Warner from Your Geek Fix on YouTube. A couple of weeks ago Chris Barnardo of the Wand Company and I went to TESTED to show off the final working Tricorder. After, we unboxed it together on video. You can check it out at
beginning at 5:00 AM CST on June 3rd 2024. The good news is that it is coming this year and that it is AWESOME! You will not believe everything is does and the work that went into it. It was so much fun playing with this thing. It works exactly as I would picture the tricorder would work in real life. So, check it out and be encouraged, it is here!
Looks great Jeromy! I'm really excited to finally own one of these. Thanks for sharing!

TWC posted on their blog that the Tricorder does have the scanning sound effect. They also said the unit reviewed on TESTED is an early pre-production model and the moire backlights have now been adjusted to be a warm white rather than cool.

About the USB port they said:

“We have a USB update function solely to support the product and to mitigate against any last minute glitches that might emerge after the first production run require fixing after manufacturing or after purchase”.
