The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Below is what I paid pre-tariff (the very first U.K. sale that was shipping to the U.S.). A friend bought one in today’s sale costing a total of $444, after tax and free Amazon delivery. So the tariff added $33.00 to the cost of a Tricorder. Is that going to break anyone? You pay that much for a meal at McDonalds nowadays. Sure they did advertise $350 before the tariff stuff hit, but that didn’t include shipping cost from the U.K. and all the applicable taxes. The tariff did not add $116 to the price.

Yeah, I get that now.
I had forgotten about the initial increase going from $300 to $350 (it has been a few years).
My base price came to $415 with a total of $449.

So, I posted week before last that I missed. Then last week I got the invite again, but went to junk mail, which cost me 2 hours and my chance, then I randomly saw on a FB thread yesterday that someone ‘in the know” said August would be the next chance. Today I got my 3rd chance, saw it within 30 minutes and was able to score my Tricorder. More than I wanted to pay,but gotta have all 3!
Lucky. I was 30 minutes later and missed again. Seems to me it would be kinder to allow those sent an invite to place an order, then ship it when stock arrives. That way we don't have to be checking our inbox so often and only have less than an hour to score one each time.

In the context category of landing party equipment options…..there is today pretty good language translator technology. It would be nice if TWC engineered one given the translator electronics and software we have today to get it as close as possible to what a Star Trek translator would do…and certainly how it looks. It even looks like a Wand :)…(Star Wars lightsaber hilt)

Hey Wand…..hint hint and a ;) ;)

Yeah I think it was first $299 but they raised it to $350 last year, well before the tariffs. I was ok with $350 but almost didn't buy at $415. So here we are at $116 more than what I initially thought I would be spending. Lol As I have said before I have seen everyone post all their pictures using it I'm already bored with it and doubt I will even play with it much. When I got my communicator I think I dabbled with it for about 10 minutes. It's been packed away since then.
I dunno…I take out my wand comm a lot….it just amazes me.

I made a Dstines and a Jlong comm…the three are just great to behold. As close as I will come to an original.

My buddy has been late to the email every time. They should mix it up and try sending emails in the evening when some people are back home from work.
Only issue with that is the release is always at 11am EST. People that are home will order then and unfortunately a lot share the links so if one is at work and can't access the link due to work rule restrictions once again they miss out .

Kind of wish you could see the moire better on the wand trike without having the light on.
That is one of the few complaints I have of the tricorder. The light is nice but you can barely see the moire when the light is off. This one thing where I like my MR Tricorder over the wand.

Oof, this is news to me. I don’t plan on using the light at all. Anyone think there is a way to mod this?
Even if at the expense of the light?

Actually I like the light, it's not overpowering at all and works very well with the tricorder.
The moving moire is not cannon either, nor the removable disks, light up watch crowns, or a working
display. But they do add to the "realism" and functionality of the tricorder.

As I have said before about TWC phaser and communicator. The are not true prop replicas, they are idealized/modernized versions of the what the props represented in the Star Trek universe.
At that, they are excellent.

If a company is replicating props from the 1990s or earlier, there is a good chance the props will need to be idealized a bit. Even hero props from those years can look pretty rough. I know MR had to make that decision and took some flak for it but the average person on the street would have thought it was a mistake.
Honestly, I thought EFX had screwed up on the Obi-wan saber until I learned they did so on purpose. Had I known that in advance, I probably would have not made the purchase at the time. It still turned out nice, but I shy'd away from the Luke saber for that very reason.

The Star Trek community has had so any replicas made that there has been a ton of conjecture for years on what is "exactly" accurate. And there is enough mis information out there to make that debate go on even now. To be honest, any idealized hero prop that is close is good enough as far as I am concerned. You are never going to make the entire Star Trek prop community happy no matter what you do.

If Wand ever reproduced the phaser and communicator, I would be jumping on that now. I was dealing with a broken neck and recovery when those came out, could not make the purchase then. The secondary market is sky high, so I most likely will have just the tricorder in my collection now.
