The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Super weird.
I placed the order, it went through, I got the confirmation email.
Then a few minutes later, I checked the listing and see this.

So I live in the US as well, it did not give me the option to purchase ans said that it can't be delivered to my location. I wonder if it knows I did not receive the email letting me know it was OK to purchase....Hmmm

I live in San Diego and go to the con every year.

Conceivably if I get the Amazon order and I also get the Wand linked order….I’ll have no problem selling two of the four tricorders.

I’ll just stand on the long stair case between the two convention center buildings and auction them off. But first I’ll have to take auction calling training ;)

Canadian here. I initially saw the listing but couldn’t add the item to my basket. Refreshed the page and got the same message as you (that it couldn’t ship to my location). Now no listing at all.

It would be nice if you’re right, and they’re somehow cross-referencing buyers with a list of those who registered interest.

I'd read elsewhere online that some folks who were ordering ahead of receiving their invitation e-mails were having their orders cancelled almost immediately. Seemed to me like TWC was monitoring who was placing orders through Amazon UK and referencing a registration list.

But seeing how many members here (and on other forums) appear to have been able to place orders for one or more trics before the Amazon UK listing came down makes me wonder if they were really keeping that close an eye on things.

I'm in the same boat as corellian77, saw that it updated to say it wasn't shippable to Canada and then POOF! Wand locked it down. Haven't received an invitation e-mail, likely because they haven't gotten to my registration number yet.

My pre-order is still showing up on my orders page, so it hasn't been canceled (yet). If/when I get my email invitation, I'll probably order from there and cancel the pre-order unless it's shipped already (and unless it's been canceled for me).

From the chatter I've seen, at least some of those whose orders were canceled were following an invite link posted by someone else. I just went from a regular search and found it on the Wand store.

Speculation…..

Those who got in on the direct Amazon UK purchases are safe and Amazon UK will have to honor them.

When Wand’s email is finally sent….it may include verbiage like…….. “If you’ve already purchased from Amazon UK directly, kindly refrain from further purchases to give other customers who have not purchased, an opportunity to purchase for themselves”

But in this day and age…. I highly doubt all will comply.

I don’t think Wand can associate interest list buyer matched to any Joe blow buyers directly purchasing from Amazon.

Until Amazon UK sends me a cancellation notice….I’m not sweating it.

And Chris FTW.

More are coming this week. We were trying to get the listing ready and we accidentally made it live for a few minutes some kind person(s) spotted it and (and shared) when the listing was only half-activated, so we decided that it was probably the least-bad option just to make it properly live and to email (send out notifications) to the first 200 people on our list (of which about 10 or 15 of the email addresses are ours due to our early testing of the registration process) rather than leave the confusion hanging. Another batch of 900 plus units is following very shortly into stock and more is already made and being shipped in right now, which will follow into stock after and there after we will be bringing more in. So please don’t worry… please continue not to complain or whine.

Exactly. It’ll be available to us when it’s meant to be. Just wait for the e-mail, guys. Not need to jump the gun.

I just hope to have the opportunity to get 2 of these (one for me, one for a friend).

Forgot to mention:

This was directed at someone who complained and whined that Wand had run out of tricorders without notifying anyone, then said he'd been very patient and hadn't complained or whined...

EDIT (4/28/25)-- This post is incorrect. Andrew Stockdale has since posted on Instagram a very clear comparison between the Greg Jein tricorder side panel and the Wand replica, and it's clear they're an exact match. The image below of the CAD geometry exactly overlaid on the 3D scan is thus not "puzzling" at all, contrary to what I said about it. Here's a link to my repost of Andrew's Instagram post.

OK, now, I'm not complaining, this is still far and away the greatest replica tricorder ever put on the market. Buuuuuut.....

There is a slight inaccuracy in the geometry.

On the left, an original fiberglass tricorder, supposedly recast from a Wah hero. Center, the MR tricorder, supposedly scanned from the same GJ A/B hero that Wand scanned. Right, the Wand tricorder. The side panel has a slight taper that's not on the original.

All the more puzzling considering this from the Wand blog post about modeling the geometry:

Very interesting. Not complaining, not a show stopper by any means, just... interesting.

Interesting indeed.
I definitely see it but it might not be as pronounced as it appears in the photo. The angle of the shot could be exaggerating the effect.
The red lines in each photo are the same size. It might be the subtle difference in shape of the strap hole that is making the taper look more pronounced. I think the TWC looks closer than the MR regarding the strap hole area. thicker side walls, radiused corners (although possibly a littl more rounded than the original, not as square as the MR)

My order went through but after five years of waiting I honestly don't care anymore. I just bought it because I registered for one and told Wand I would buy one when they came up for sale. By the way, I live in Colorado, so some U.S. orders do seem to be going through.

That's a good point. I didn't allow for optical delusion in my "analysis." :p

Just for Sh!ts and G!ggles, These two red shapes are identical copies of each other. There is a tiny bit of taper but when lined up, it appears much more subtle than it originally looks. Crazy. But yeah, by no means a negative in my opinion.

This is great to know. So it does seem like it is invite only. My waiting continues since I only registered June of last year.

Yeah I'm sure there's going to be a lot of that. I went through a spat of that a couple of years ago when comms went silent on the project. I read the blog updates and checked the comments section but I honestly kind of lost interest. My other TWC items were in boxes in storage, and I had moved on to other things. Then when the unboxing videos started surfacing and this thread started picking up again, it relit the fire haha. They packed so much 60's sci-fi goodness into this thing that I was giddy all over again.

Then there’s this…..

At this point it’s too late for changes to the body anyway…..

Besides….I’m not one to have anal retentive friends who would do this with my collectibles….

I’m just glad to know after this long wait, I’ll finally get to complete a higher tech Star Trek landing party trio from the same company.
