The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

i remember when super mario 3 came out... i was so excited for that. again super excited for sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles. probably the most hyped ive ever been in my life was sonic 3, the music was awesome
And you finally had Game saves so you didn't have to have your mum blasting at you for the heat coming from the plug outlet :D

My Megadrive/Genesis was left on 24/7..
Surprised it still works!

Although I tend to use Kodi to play my games until I have the time to make an Arcade cabinet..

EDIT: Spelling mistake

You will have so much fun with a real cab. Nothing quite like the original arcade sticks and buttons. I built this last year and it has seen a lot of use:

Thats pretty neat, yes it has to be Joysticks
Are you retro inside or running something like a Raspberry Pie ?

Thanks! I'm running a raspPi 3 inside with retroarch as my software. The joys are Sanwa 4/8 way. It's mostly me playing so I have all 4-way games using the player two side and 8 way using player 1. For 2-player simultaneous games I can lift the panel up and switch the player 2 Sanwa plate over to 8-way.

All joys/buttons run to an iPac2 board and that is connected to the Pi via USB.

Awesome sounds like I need to do similar with my cabinet.
I love retroarch I run it via my Nvidia shield then a projector for Humongous action and on my Chunky PSP for on the go shenanigans..

Projector is the only way to go for sure. I had Bluetooth issues with my 8bitdo Pi setup in our theater but we also run a Shield so maybe I need to put retroarch on that and give it a go. What controller do you use with your Shield? Are your roms on a separate HD?

Yes I had Sound issues too so I now run Nvidia via Hdmi to Audio then on a long arse Hdmi to projector I can now run glorious Dolbly Atmos for movies TV etc.. All that Bluetooth clipping now a thing of the past..

Sorry forgot to answer other questions..

I use a Official PS4 and an Aftermarket PS4 controller..
I love how easy they connect they feel and have decent Dualshock too..
My Roms are all on an external HDD powered by USB from shield.
I keep meaning to hook up my PS to the projector as Games like COD and Burnout Paradise would I would imagine be Awesome!
I do have Burnout on Steam but it kept buffering despite turning all the suggested settings on/off.

I want to convert a n64 to hdmi… I’ve seen a few on them on YouTube

Golden eye
Zelda 64
Mario cart
Mario party(s)

So many good games.. played that thing the most out of all my systems

I started playing Jedi Fallen Order and I'm on the first planet you can go to (Zeffo or something) and this game is incredibly boring. My nephew said it was bad. Is there any point to keep playing? So far I'd put it in my top 5 of awful SW games.

I couldn’t get past the wall climbing part in the beginning lol

What are you not finding “fun” about it?

You do start off weak but combat becomes “fun” after you unlock certain abilities, notably the run, precision dodge, and force powers.

Its not flashy like Force Unleashed but the real fun unlocks around the second planet iirc.

The game shines at one vs one combat, especially after you learn the opponents’ movesets and know when to parry.

I agree its not one of the “best” or even top 5 star wars games made but its decent for a star wars game when we havent really had anything good for a while. I think fans also support it as a protest to EA who declared single-player games were dead and were moving toward a games as a service model with microtransactions.

I actually really enjoyed it, but I knew what I was in for with it. It's a straightforward game with a pretty good story.

The climbing mechanism takes some getting used to. Actually, all the movement stuff takes getting used to, but once you do, it's a pretty solid game. Zeffo, though, is a frickin' maze, and in that sense can be a pain in the ass at times. I gave up on getting 100% of all planets explored there. I'd say the game really comes into its own on Kashyyyk. That one was more fun to explore, and there's plenty of stormtrooper mooks to take out.

But it's true that the combat isn't the flashy "You slice an AT-ST in half!" stuff from The Force Unleashed. It's not without pizzazz, but it's not over-the-top like that. Fighting the purge troopers is probably the best part.

Yeah I just have no video game skills lol

I have no problem with the controls, it doesn't feel like you're a Jedi. The lightsaber is basically a baton you're beating people to death with. Then there's a lot of places where a Jedi would just use a Force jump to cross instead of the wall running. It feels like a boring version of Tomb Raider. I don't know, I can't put my finger on why I don't like it beyond that. I'll probably try to play it a little longer, because I do get that unlocking more things might make it more fun, but usually when I get this feeling it's time to move on to something else. All the EA produced SW games just seem like pale imitations of the previous stuff LucasArts made.
