The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

It's free until 8am tomorrow. I would've posted sooner if I had noticed.
I'd add that signing for Epic's game service/app (which is free) is a pretty good deal if you like collecting games, along with Gog. Epic offers 1 or 2 new games every week completely free. Mostly they're small indie games that you may not have heard of, but sometimes they're AAA titles or at least AA like Control. Gog is the same, except that they offer free games more infrequently but they do have a pretty substantial back catalog of free games that you can get, including the Ultima series. And if you're a Prime member, sign up for a free Twitch account and you can get several free games every month, like the others, they're usually small indie games but occasionally they'll drop in the AAA title or two, but those are usually from 3rd parties and not directly from Twitch. Recently they gave away Star Wars Squadrons via Origins (I believe).

Do they automatically add them to your account or do you still have to do that yourself?

You have to do it yourself. Epic gives you a week, their free games drop every Thursday normally, but right now they're giving one game away every day. Twitch gives you a month to claim your game(s) and Gog typically gives you a few days at most. As long as you're subscribed to their newsletters you'll know when a new game drops, or, if you don't want to subscribe to so many newsletters, you can just subscribe to Gamespiot's newsletter and they'll post any free games being offered in those e-mails.

Yeah the music was fantastic. All the sonic games had great music. Do you know who one of the uncredited music creators on 3 was?:)

Michael Jackson believe it or not. For the longest time it was considered a rumor that he helped create the music but SEGA employees who worked on the game and Jackson's own music composer confirmed it. MJ was a Sonic fan and if you remember made his own game with SEGA. So they approached him about writing the music for Sonic 3 which he did but requested to go uncredited due to his dissatisfaction with 16bit limitations and how compressed the music ended up sounding.

I think the old show Code Monkeys spoofed this when they had Neil Diamond come in to make a music track for one of their games which was for a mid 1980's 8 bit fictional game console that couldn't possibly support any type of non-chiptune audio.

I bought Cyberpunk at full price and I actually think it was well worth it. 50% off is definitely worth it.

I finally found a new game I actually want to play. The game "Iron Harvest" is a RTS set in an alternate WW1 with mechs and things. I haven't tried it yet, but have had it wishlisted for a while because PC Gamer gave it a good review and it looks pretty cool.
It's definitely good, but good lord, thing has more crashes than a simultaneous demolition derby.

It depends on if you play Cyberpunk on PC and then on your hardware I guess .I had very few actual crashes, but I played it probably 4 months after release.

I played days after release on an older PC and it ran fine. I really didn't run into any real bugs until late in the game when I was playing the last missions. Other than that, the game always ran smoothly for me, and this is on a pre-Ryzen AMD CPU, DDR 3 RAM, and an old, old video card which I eventually upgraded to an Nvidia GTX 16500 series card.

Amazon boxing day game sales have started. I did snag 7 highly discounted PS5 games.

I actually ended up getting both Aliens Fireteam and Back 4 Blood gifted to me on Steam after I had already bought both on PS5. Which is fine because I have people to play with on both platforms, ironically though still don't have a PS5 or a PC that can run them at the moment. I didn't have anything left on my PC wishlist that was available so I have one brother who said he would get me Warhammer 40k Darktide on PC when it comes out as a late Christmas gift and I will still likely get it for PS5 as well.

The system is a year old and they already stopped making games?
