The official Modern Warfare 2 thread

I just picked it up...YEAH! It may be a day or two before I get on though. But I will try for tonight if I don't fall asleep before 9:00. :)

I am sooooo tired...

That level got me too. I know it's not real, but for some reason it's okay to shoot digital bad guys, but when they're innocents, it's unsettling.

What really p'd me off was SPOILER for SP...

In the level in the U.S. neighborhood where the Russian APC drives through indescriminately shooting holes in houses. I was kind of surprised because it was a game, but it got me ticked. It is realistic to how Russia apparently conducts their troops though.

Ever since patch 1.02 was released this morning, I've been having major problems with the multiplayer. I know there's a server overload issue right now, but I get to the point where the map is 100% done loading and I just get stuck at "Setting up game...". I can hear everyone and the game gunfire.

And now, I tried it again to see if the server is back up 100% and it froze while doing a search (couldn't even shutdown via the controller). I tried it again after a cold bootup and it froze at the same spot.

I'm starting to regret cancelling Xbox Live today.

Been enjoying the campaign mode. I've only played about 3 hours and I'm up to end of Act 2 "Of their own accord", which is more than halfway through (level-wise). The level on the oil rig is pretty cool and The Gulag is reminiscent of The Rock (the movie, not the wrestler).

I decided to play on Recruit so I could check the levels out, see the details and all that, but even on Recruit, it's non-stop.

I'll probably be done before the weekend, then maybe I can join up with you guys (XBL: CABLEMONKEY). Are the multiplayer levels larger on 2 than they were on 1? I hated 1 because the boards were so small. There was never any room to do anything other than run n'gun. And the people I played with always used infinite respawns, so there was no strategy, whatsoever.

I called a nuke last night! Got an AC-130 and decimated with it for the 25.

Before calling it I said "And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and FURIOUS ANGER those who would seek to poison and destroy my brothers! AND YOU WILL KNOW MY NAME IS THE LORD WHEN I LAY MY VENGEANCE UPON THEE!!!"

Five seconds later there's this huge white light and rumbling in the background as the nuke sweeps towards you destroying everyone and ending the game.

Nice. I'd never get that far in a speech (if I get to 25 kills is another story). I'd probably say "And I..." at that point, I'd get sniped off :lol

Is this game hard to pick up and play for a first-timer? What if you're really used to Halo 3 controls? I mostly enjoy multiplayer shooters - will I just get wrecked or are the matches pretty well ranked?

Thanks in advance for the info! I might pick this up if it sounds like I could slide into the stream easily enough...

The control scheme is very similar to Halo, but you can always change it to your liking. I'd say the learning curve is probably slightly steeper than something like Halo or Rainbow Six.

I wouldn't say it's hard to pick up but playing multiplayer for the first time would be frustrating. My suggestion would be to play the campaign mode first, then get some friends to play with you in a multiplayer match or even better yet, a private match to learn some things.

Since it's a new game, everyone is ranked low so you'd get thrown in with people who have been playing Modern Warfare and World at War. I'm a good player but on Tuesday I had a 45 kill, 12 death game followed by a 5 kill, 17 death game. I got my ass thoroughly kicked. :lol

Most FPS have no learning curve if you've played one, you've played them all. It's just a few minor button mappings that are usually different.

I don't see how you'll suck in this if you're good in Halo 3.

Okay....that is just f...ing cool! Dammit, I want it to be Friday night!!

I was late to the COD4 party and barely played WAW online. I'm decent at Halo 3 but consider the COD franchise to be more difficult. I'm usually ranked in the bottom third in COD games. If you do get MW2 for 360 I'd be happy to give you some practice in private matches.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that. It's pretty much exactly like "The Rock".

I'd still like to know how the Russians got the attack helos here. I can understand about the stuff that you could airdrop, but where would helos fly from? Also where are all the U.S. civilians that would be fighting? That would have been a cool mission if you had your Rangers being called to go assist civilians who were in a firefight with the Russians.
