Favorite Fictional Game?

I found Orlog in AC: Valhalla to be quite enjoyable.
The only thing that disappointed me is, they're usually very historically accurate, and there are perfectly viable games from that era, that we don't know the rules for -- only the pieces remain. They could easily have made their own, and nobody could have argued they were wrong. But a collectable dice game isn't one of those games!

That said, I do enjoy Orlog.

Can’t believe I forgot about this one!

The Kobayashi Maru.

Sure its more a training exercise but given the wide variety of scenarios it responds to (attack the Maru itself, fight off klingons, negotiate with Klingon commander or challenge to combat, etc.) all visualized is insanely impressive in terms of player freedom.

No idea what it is but am also intrigued by the video games talked about by the kids in back to the future party 2 where "using your hands" to play video games is old and lame.

There is probably that scenario or easy enough to make, in Starfleet Battles table top game.

I have the game but haven't played it in well over 25 years.
Not since the Dooms Day Edition changed the rules and made all the ships weaker.(n)

No. There are several versions of that scenario for SFB! I think every small group of SFB players back in the day had their own Star Trek megafan who homebrewed their own Kobayashi Maru scenario. I seem to remember an SFB event in the 80s at a sci-fi convention where every table had a variant of the scenario, because every Starfleet cadet gets their own modification.

Officially, SFB proposed that each Galactic race made up their own enemy for their own Kobayashi Maru scenario, but I suspect that was just to give them an excuse to make even more alien races to populate the Galaxy (since it was Star Trek-adjacent, they had a lot of non-canonical stuff!)

EDIT: It occurred to me to check. The Star Fleet Command computer game is based on SFB, and one of the training scenarios is the Kobayashi Maru, which makes a lot of sense, actually.

FASA brought out a Kobayashi Maru mini that I used to have along with all their non canon ships.

Most of the games I played where basically that scenario since my opponent always cheated.

Star Trek Bridge Crew is a VR game that puts you as a captain (or crewmember) on the bridge of a starship. It is quite an experience. The opening training section has you discovering a distress signal from within the neutral zone. Any fan would recognize the transmission as the Kobayashi Maru. Of course they later reveal that you've been in a training simulator. Great immersive experience!

Watching this video makes me want to give it another shot. Star Trek Bridge Crew VR is the best Star Trek starship experience to date.

Thats pretty cool. I know its fictional but based on the Abrams depiction and from what Ive heard in the novels, the test visualizes what happens and for you to react in real time to a huge variety of scenarios which is what I find impressive tbh. Im still personally unsure about VR but its cool.
