Ryan Gosling 'K' - Blade Runner 2049!

Hey all, thank you tremendously for pouring all this detective work into something like this, I got a question.
I cant tell if the first jackets color difference is just really weird lighting or did he do some waxing and dyeing? He said it was out of box, so maybe the jacket on the right is an old version?

Also since were already in 2022, anyone have maybe an speck of hunch when Soul Revolver will finally update their shearling? I really want to buy this jacket for me and then a Zlurpo for my dad, or possibly an Egon if it comes out good... He's a big fan.

And thank you all, and also thank you for being such big inspiration for a guy who previously had no interest in design and tailoring until reading this thread.
Considering how different the color of the actual prop looks in different lighting, the color difference here is probably due to the lighting too.

Egon would you mind sharing where you got the exact measurements from? Im just curious. Also, as Mechanismo pointed out, I am considering using acrylic paint instead of wax on my WSL. have you tried that? has anyone? The concern is that it cracks. There are some acrylics that are made for fabric and presumably have the medium (thinner) added to it so that it doesn't crack the material after a while but it's risky. I realize my SR is made with an acrylic coating on top of the cotton. But Im not professional and quite honestly dont know what the hell Im doing so dont want to ruin a potentially good looking coat. The WSL 'naked' is just alright. It really does need some treatment on the cotton canvas to add that weight and weathered look to it. Also, any suggestions to add bulk and weight to the collar? it is pretty flappy. Mechanismo and I were thinking of buckram but the type I found that was heat fused to the material made it feel really plasticy and weird. Would appreciate suggestions on any of these issues.
update on the SR: tailor is putting finally touches on tomorrow. Should be ready this week. Will post pictures.

Update: Really like how far the SR has come, guys. Removing the second lawyer/double sidedness has made a huge difference as has moving the collar into the right spot per Mechanismo's instructions. Further, the tailor has straightened out the lapel and removed the curvature up that you saw last time. Finally, the bunching and warping has been minimized. A couple of final touches and fingers crossed it is done this week. Will post pictures if all the work is done. I requested a few more tweaks so that may push it to the weekend but hopeful that it is done soon.

Not sure you could dye the SR the way it’s coated.
Those pics are in line with the way it looks different in different light.
Here is min in different lighting

Shahrooz probably has more info on their shearling change but they don’t sound interested in changing it as far as I can remember
Its a shame SR is so tight-fisted. They could easily have new shearling but still want to to get rid of the office-cubicle carpet they're using.
What's the size? What's the dimensions of your arms?

I'm 6'2 170 lbs. Ordering XL because I have lanky proportions. So probably will have to get it tailored if its too big on me (although I think this looks better loose). Otherwise I will have more motivation to build muscle, haha.

More photos with you donning the jacket would be appreciated. It looks fantastic.

This is the 2049 waist coat not the trench.Sizing is definitely the tricky part on SR being a European cut.
I am 5’11 and 160-165. Lanky arms too. I have a large. IMO it fits like a US medium. The fit for me is not too big where it looks sloppy with only a T shirt or one single button down shirt layer but also enough room for a sweater layer if needed . If that makes sense .
they told me medium for slim fit only one layer and large to be able to layer based on my measurements and that was spot on.

My sleeves are 26.5 inches to the scoop(longest part that lands in hand above knuckles) and 25 inches to the non scooped inside part.
With the jacket zipped and laid out in get 22 inches pit to pit for the chest. And 18.75-19 inches for the shoulder

My advise is to give them the measurements and go with their suggestion based on how you want to wear it. But if you normally wear a large in jackets I bet thenXL SR will fit similarly.
Hope this helps. Will try to get some wearing it later

I have the same kind of measurements as you. As you know, it's usually on the belly part that any garnement, not tailored to your specifics, will have a problem. All of my suits are tailored because: slim + long arms:p A good tailor will make the necessary adjustments taking care of your silhouette as a whole. ;)

you and me both! hahaha.... well I had COVID that delayed it for quite a bit. Anyway, looking forward to sharing with all of you. I hope Egon will share some of his wisdom and answer my questions above. I'm really curious about acrylic paint on my WSL but also dont want to ruin it.

Sorry bout that, now I remember you mentioned covid a couple pages back, I didn't intend to make light of that., genuinely excited to see your coat.
Glad you are better .

Nah man that was funny, bud. No worries. My tailor isnt the fastest in town either so you were dead on. Been a long journey with lots of obstacles. Cant wait to actually wear the darn thing sometime soon haha.

Looking so much better. When's are you going to start a run?
I think many of us here would be interested and are intrigued by Zlurpo's renewed efforts but to me, the color and the material are still not right. I would seriously consider getting another coat if they can find the right laminated/painted cotton in the shade(s) of green that match some of the versions of the movie coat. It's looking promising, though.

This is crystal clear, there is no one has right fabric that used in movie coat.
The original coat made on canvas laminated fabric, that doesn't exist any store or any brand yet.
All community knows about it, so they are buying from their favorite store/brand or props makers, you can also.

You dont seem to be following the thread. I already have the soul revolver and it has the best fabric of them currently. I also have a WSL coat. That one is just plain cotton. So unless Zlurpo can find a similar acrylic cotton material as the Soul Revolver but with better and more accurate design and better shearling, many of us are not going to buy another coat that just sort of looks right. It would be great if you could continue your work and find the right material as you've come such a long way with the design.

Hey Brother,

You haven't realized yet, we are talking about movie coat fabric instead "best fabric".
As we and you want to get SA coat, that means SA from all aspect, without right material no one can claim about best fabric.
SO, movie coat fabric is laminated canvas fabric instead cotton.
As I said in back pages, we are offering what material we have, with more accurate details.

Jameel

I appreciate your efforts. And this is a team effort for sure and we are all here to help each other and ideally help the coatmakers produce a better product. That's why Mechanismo for example has helped numerous people here and has spent endless hours providing important details about the coat. But if you want to get the coat right, you really have to spend time going over the comments on the thread, there is no way around it. I've said that to you many times. You are wrong. The movie coat is made from cotton that was then painted on and laminated. This is well known because the costume designer's name is Rene April, a french lady who has spoken many times about the coat and how she made it. She made a total of 15 or so coats. If you take the time to read the thread or even just google her name and "blade runner 2049" coat, you can do your own diligence and research. Which, quite frankly, Zlurpo and WSL and Magnoli should have done from the beginning but didnt bother to do. the only coatmaker that is using the correct material is Soul Revolver who are sourcing a cotton fabric with an acrylic paint. As such, the SR is currently the best and most accurate fabric in the game. I agree that your coat is on the way of becoming the most accurate in terms of the design and details and Mechanismo has been critical part of that process as have you been. So I congratulate you and Zlurpo on that but without finding and sourcing the right material, as many of us have said often before, the coat is still far from being accurate. To each his own and perhaps many people will like your accurate design and pattern even if the material is not accurate but I for one will not purchase another coat unless I see some significant improvement on all levels and with respect to every aspect of the coat, including the material. again, research Rene April and Officer K coat and you will find many quotes and interviews where she speaks about the fabric, the material, the process and even the fur.

Dear Shahrooz and all members, I have question about this coat.
Is this coat belongs to the Blade Runner 2049 movie or it was made any of tailor for his shop?
Different countries have different terms for same things. It might be possible when she were talking about cotton it's means canvas because canvas also cotton.
Our coats based on this coat, and it's cotton duck cloth or cotton canvas.
The cotton is material name, but it's not fabric type.
There are many many type of fabric those made by cotton, like twill, canvas, fleece, oxford, jersey, etc.....

Hi Jameel, the pictured coat is indeed a screen-used prop coat from the movie.

Just my two cents. I think what Shahrooz is saying (and is reflective of many opinions on this thread) is that, despite getting the coat nearly ‘bang on’ in terms of design/patterns/specs it still falls short of being considered ‘screen accurate’ until the coat’s cotton fabric has that acrylic finish and color (as seen with Soul Revolver’s material).

It’s a trade-off. Personally, as it stands at the moment, I would much rather have a coat that has the right design/specs even if it’s with un-laminated cotton (do it myself or wax it perhaps) over purchasing an over-priced Soul Revolver which is rife with inaccuracies but, granted, has beautiful material.

Hopefully, Zlurpo / Jameel can eventually source laminated cotton like Soul Revolver's and make this all a moot point going forward. That said, I’m really impressed by the lengths Jameel Ur is going to get this coat as accurate as possible. Being able to have an open discussion with a coat designer is wonderful and clearly something that Magnoli, WSL or SR have zero interest in doing.
