Limited Run Luke's ROTJ Static Yuma/ISYHCANL/Hero Variations Kit Parts Run (Sign up closed/In Production)

**Update**

Apologies for radio silence this evening everyone. I've been trying to focus on getting these few aditional changes made, so I've tried to stay away until ready to preview what I've been doing...

So... Following on from my previous update, several discussions have arisen behind the scenes, and it became clear that there were still things that could be done to improve the accuracy of the models.

I have to thank BRRogers again. He has been incredibly helpful throughout this entire process, and considering he has a run of his own coming up, the fact that he is willing to share so much is a credit to him.

Also big thanks to teecrooz who's knowledge and insights have been invaluable too!

For everyone who is waiting patiently for me to hit go on this, I really appreciate your patience! Again, I believe it's better to hold off and improve the models wherever possible, than to send models to be manufactured that still have inaccuracies.

Anyway, without further adieu....

Here are a couple of images of all three Yuma versions in their final form*:

*Each kit contains all parts needed to create any one version of the static Yuma prop.

Now, just a few notes on the latest changes:

As you may know from my previous update, I was convinced that because of the curve that is seen in the ends of the pommel channels, the step down to the body MUST be on an angle, and could not be a 90 degree drop...

Well, it hadn't occurred to me that it may be both!

The angle continues as far as the peak of the curve, where it then drops perpendicular to the body:

Now that I've seen it, and modelled it, I can see this in several of the references.

Also it is clear that the hole for the Tri-Ring cuts in to the channels at either side ever so slightly.

There has been a lot of discussion today about the ridges in the emitter nipple. I had clearly gone in too far on the previous attempt. I had figured that each ridge would be a step down, resulting in a concave face. This is not the case. There is a pronounced outer lip. The face is then flat with four inner details. Each ridge is angled back ever so slightly, but from the same point. the depth of the detail on the nipple face is 0.1mm, so removing it would take very little effort. In fact, I would be more than happy to do so for anyone that would prefer an idealised version.

Sorry for the possibly repetitive question, but what is that circular mark that's in the first two images?

I'm guessing you're referring to the slotted screw below the emitter face? Thanks again to BRRogers, who pointed this out to me. It's clear as day on those references, so I couldn't possibly have left it off.

I have added the necessary drill point to the model and sourced the correct size of slotted grub screw to match the size of the feature in the reference photo.

I believe that the models are now good to go! As always, I welcome any suggestions that might add to the accuracy of the models. I'm aware that people are keen to get the parts ordered too though.

It's just gone midnight here in the UK, so I'll leave this post up over night and maybe in to tomorrow morning a little before I start to think about taking payments.

There is still time to get on board too if you're interested.

Stay safe everyone!

Cheers,

Dave

I was going to say I can't see the slot for the screw, but I can just make one out if I zoom in :)

Some people really have a good eye to spot something like that.

I'm looking forward to this run

Yeah, I had the screw filling my hole screen at one point. :D it's definitely there. It looks as though the screw may have been painted over with aluminium paint. Possibly. That's a guess, but it does appear to have a coating of something that's taking away some (but not all) definition. It's unusual that it happens to match the colour of the emitter too. I suspect it is probably quite a bit darker in reality, so has been covered over. Again. Just speculating there!

I'm really looking forward to getting things moving too! Hopefully today. :)

Cheers

**Update**

Hi Everyone. Payments have started to come in now, so I'm going to have to call time on the models, and get the CAD drawing amended to reflect the latest changes.

This evening I made a couple of slight alterations. It was suggested that I take another look at the pattern on the emitter nipple. I'm glad I did, as I believe it's now much more accurate to the prop:

You might notice that a couple of the internal corners have been softened too, to reflect what can be seen in the reference photos.

To work out the pattern on the nipple face, I grabbed a selection from a fairly high res photo and removed the perspective. I then performed a radial blur to get a uniform pattern. This did a pretty good job of highlighting the various peaks and troughs. Having a fully front on view meant that I could easily transfer what I was seeing on to the 3D model. I think it's now looking MUCH closer to the actual prop, so well worth the effort!

It was also pointed out to me that the screws in the Hero control box plate should be at slightly different heights. VERY subtle, but since we're going for perfection. Spot the difference! :) ....

Anyway, whilst payments are coming in, I'm still open to new orders, but once all those who had confirmed last week have paid, I'm going to have to close the sign up and get the parts ordered.

SO very excited to get everything sent off. Once the order has been placed, I'll begin getting everyone's kits ready for shipping, so as soon as the parts arrive, I can get them shipped straight back out to everyone!

Thanks everyone!

Dave

*Update*

Hi Everyone. Just a quick update...

As you may know, payments have started to come in. Thanks to all those who have paid so far. As soon as all payments are in for confirmed orders (highlighted orange), I'll be sending the updated drawings off for the parts to be manufactured. At that point quantities will become fixed and sign up will be closed. There is time to jump on board between now and then if you're able to make payment straight away.

Obviously, due to the Covid19 situation, I can't give a definite lead time, although the manufacturer is currently giving a lead time of 20 days. This is not including shipping times though, so please be aware that we may be looking at 3-4 weeks.

I'm already busy making preparations to send these out as soon as I receive them.

Yesterday I ordered the boxes for shipping. They are big enough to fit multiple bodies, but still fit within royal mail's "small parcel" size. Which was a relief! :D

I also ordered the extra brass rails I require, and the additional slot headed grub screws for the emitters. So I now have ALL materials needed.

I've also finished updating the CAD drawings to reflect the latest changes to the models. Everything is now ready to send off for production as soon as I know everyone's quantities.

Really looking forward to making a start on one of these beauties! Thanks again everyone!

I'll keep everyone updated as things develop.

All the best, and stay safe!

Dave

**Update**

Hi Everyone. I just want to keep everyone updated. There are still a couple of payments to come in, but I think I have the final numbers for all the individual parts locked down now!

*Now that I have the quantities, I'm going to go ahead and get the order placed!*

I contacted the manufacturer regarding lead times and heard back from them this morning:

"At the moment, the lead time of 20 days is correct, however, the situation changes daily and we are monitoring it as best as we can!"

Very excited to be hitting go on this! Thank you all so much for helping to make this run possible! I'll keep everyone updated as things progress...

All the best,

Dave

**update**

Just another quick courtesy post to let everyone know that ALL parts are now ordered!! :)

This is incredibly exciting! I'll keep everyone updated as and when things start to turn up. The 3D printed stuff is probably going to arrive first, so I look forward to posting an update to show off the reveal cards as soon as I'm able to.

Thanks again everyone! For now, the updates will probably not be quite as frequent., but as soon as there are any developments, I'll post them up on here! Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions though.

All the best,

Dave

Just curious, it looks like the 3d printed board has a hole for maybe a switch? Is there a board in the works to power up the triangle lights?

Hi. No, that's just a feature of the original board that I picked up on from the reference photo. I've ordered the LEDs to include in the kit (slightly shorter than the ones in the rendered image to save space), but that's about as far as I've gone for the kit. I think my own personal solution will be something very simple. Just an on-or-off alternating circuit. Others have gone to greater lengths to make their set ups more interactive. I'd check out what they're doing on the MoM, or what Dann did on his. The hole you mentioned would be a good place for a cylindrical push switch though! I might borrow that idea ;)

Hi mate, just wondering if you’ll have any extras of these in the future?
Hi. I did add enough parts for one extra kit, but I'm afraid it went today! Sorry about that. I'd be up for doing another run though if the interest was there. I'll post another interest thread once this run is finished, and if it gets to 25+ again, I'd be more than happy to do another run.

Man, Dave, your models are just beautiful!

Lovely work, on this, good sir!!!

Will these be available for printing, or is this just for the run you're doing? Sorry if I missed that, somewhere!
