I doubt the younger generations will have much nostalgia for anything because they have more choice than any previous generation in existence. Why cling to the past?

People get nostalgic for crappy bands like Poison and TV shows like 'Saved by the Bell'.

Nostalgia is sort of a two-pronged thing. It's only partially the show's quality. The other half, which is more critical, is people's warm fuzzy memories of it. People don't get nostalgic for a high-quality old show that they didn't watch in its own time.

Perfect examples.

For me, it was The Dukes of Hazard. I LOVED that show as a kid. Every Friday night at 8pm I was GLUED to the TV.

I even watched the Coy and Vance year without complaint.

After I was an adult, I got the nostalgia urge to watch it as I was flipping channels one day.

Watched about 8 minutes and said “This is crap!”

Still a huge 'Dukes' fan here.

The first handful of episodes of season#1 were a different animal from most of the series. They filmed it in Georgia and it had a PG-rated tone. You see that stuff in the footage of the opening credits. They moved out to Cali later in the 1st season and turned the show more G-rated & cheesier.

Season #5 was the Vance & Coy era. The drama is hard to watch because the temporary Duke boys were actually reading the scripts they were given (the regular Bo & Luke tended to improvise lines). The car stunts are really good though, because the producers threw more money at it to make up for the scab Duke boys.

Season#7 (the final one) is pretty unwatchable even for me. Everybody was going through the motions and the budget was so cheap it was showing. The producers dabbled in using mininatures for the car stunts too (those shots are easy to spot as an adult).

Didn't Knight Rider also use minature cars for several of its stunts? These were like 2 or 3 feet long IIRC.

Yes. KR used miniatures extensively. Much more than 'Dukes' did.

(1/8th scale miniature KITT)

The same outfit did miniatures for many early 1980s shows (KR, Dukes, The Fall Guy, Airwolf). They mostly used 1/8th scale stuff (cars the size of skateboards). IIRC they also used a few 1/12th scales when model trains were involved.

I liked the KR miniatures because the producers used them to get more creative with the storylines. KITT was parachuting out of cargo planes and driving through lava flows and stuff.

The 'Dukes' miniatures basically just did the same types of stunts they had always done. It undermined the realism without making the show any better. And it kind of soiled the show's stunt reputation after they had done 6 seasons of real stuff.

How many Vader’s have been made now? And each one is ‘The best one yet’! Not a slam against your view of it, I just see that every time a new one comes out.

So Hasbro had just been one upping their Vader's. I mean they already had a really nice sculpt from back in 2005 and 2006. Which they re-released a bunch of times. But for the Kenobi show they made a brand new sculpt. With phenomenal articulation and paint apps. But it was for the Kenobi show. Then they updated that sculpt and added a removable helmet for a ROTJ version. So same articulation and paint but it's now an Episode VI version. But removable helmet. Which never looks as good as a single piece.

But then they went updated the sculpt for ANH this. So now you have all that amazing articulation and paint application but as ANH version. So it really is the best Vader they've done.

They've come a long way

I remember going to a ROSE'S store the day they were stocking these. Money was tight, but I decided to buy every single figure for my son, who was a toddler at the time, & put them back for a Christmas surprise.

So Christmas comes, my kids open their gifts, then I go in the bedroom & bring out the bags of these. I dump them all on the floor in the middle of us (me, the wife, my son, & infant daughter), & proclaimed "IT'S STAR WARS TIME BOYS & GIRLS... CHRISTMAS CAN BEGIN!!!".

Very first thing that happens is, my wife picks up Luke & says,"Uhhh... These don't look like the people in the movie. Were these from a flea market? Did you pay money for these?".

I responded the only way I knew... through gritted teeth, as close to a smile as I could muster, said, "...they're OFFICIAL star wars toys & the only thing we've got in YEARS... please stop or you're going to ruin Christmas...".

A cherished memory to be sure, but it could also help me understand why I try to find the good/cool/interesting, even in BAD Star Wars.:lol:;)

+1

I collected the originals when they came out in 1978, so I was EXCITED for new official Star Wars figures!

I remember purchasing these back in 1995, even though magazine pics looked, uhhhh... goofy? And although our heroes had He-Man proportions, I picked up the entire first run.

That was... twenty...nine... years... AGO! I've still got a bunch near mint on card!! :)

I had eeeeeverything from that 90’s run. Short sabers, long sabers. Monkey Luke. Variants

ended up storing them at my parents til they were moving into a smaller place and told me to take what I wanted and the rest they’d trash… took a look at what was all there and it all looked way too goofy. My 90’s image comic loving mind was long dead… my taste in artwork and sculpts more refined, haha. (GI Joe classified! Ohhhhh man)

I traded the whole lot to my local collector toy store for a hot toys 89 Batman.

Cuz while that Batman costume looks ridiculous as a practical armor now, it’s still ridiculously awesome.

Ape Leia not so much.

You clearly got the better deal.

I never really got into figures personally. I do get caught up on looks and human figures usually dont turn out well, even when you go statue level. I do personally like droids or characters covered in armor though since they often come out great. Lack of space and cost also becomes an issue though lol.

Always was a fan of the lightsabers though and learning about Master Replicas from a random Star Wars bar (owner had a Qui Gon) and wanting one got me into the hobby and eventually finding the RPF.

I always liked the vehicle toys more than the figures. I'm too visually-oriented to be really enthused about the accuracy of old 3.75" figures. It was fun to have the correct figures present but they weren't a big thing to me.

I mean, look at the original Kenner ANH Han Solo. Harrison Ford in costume looked cool. His figure did not.

I have been collecting the Micro Galaxy Squadron ones... They are pretty cool, small scale so they fit in shelves and the price is very decent.
