Limited Run Star Wars - Jedi training remote SFX aluminium box base

I'm a bit tired lately, after covid, it seems I'm having a tough time getting back to 100% and I'm back to my old spine and neck issues full strength this week, will have to do xrays and MRI again and live with the pain for a while again. Sorry for the sob story, I'm telling you guys this because I fracked up a part today... that will cost quite a bit of time and money as I will have to do the part again from scratch, not in a run fashion, and I don't have leftover material for this, so I need to order just for this, pay shipping and all. Very disheartening. But this happens when doing run, it's already a good thing that this is just one part and not a series of parts. I thought I should mention as mistakes are part of the work as well.

here we go!

Hi there,
The boxes are going forward, I'm caught up with everything I can do before redoing the part I fracked up. The aluminium is on the way and I hope to receive it on Monday.
But that means I'm not working on this this week end and will be back on it as soon as I receive the order.

When the aluminium is here, I'm redoing that one part, painting the tops and bottoms, drilling the attaching hole on all the top parts, screwing the boxes together, milling back and front, attaching the back plates and doing the final assembly.

I have sent a PM to people I didn't have info for the remote attachement. When I have all the answers, I'll do the rods as well.

Sorry for the delay, a bit more patience but we are not too far.
cheers all

Did you just "frack up" one single part or the whole batch of this specific part?

no, just one part luckily, the run opperation was good, I was just tired and didn't push the part against the depth stop I had setup for some reason. Just an isolated incident. But the annoying part was that I didn't have the material to replace it. I'm hoping to receive the aluminium this afternoon or worst case tomorrow afternoon and get back to it to finish as soon as possible.
In the meantime, i'm working on the Expanse pistol kit.
cheers all

edit: Godamnit, i posted progress on the wrong thread again! seriously! Well, sorry guys! will leave this here, this is progress for the Expanse pistols kits... enjoy :)

Hey there, sorry, I didn't have time to update yesterday,
I'm back on the training remote base boxes from today until they are finished. Then I'll finally be full time on this.

Yesterday, i sanded flat and nice all the blocks.
Here you can see my setup with the famous guitar frets sanding block:

The advantage of this is that is perfectly flat, to the hundreds of mm, the disadvantage of this is that... it's perfectly flat!
The part I tested the power sander on had a slight concave curve in the center, so it took a good while to get back to perfectly flat with a nice surface finish!
here after a moment sanding, there was a large unsanded area in the middle:

after then more minutes or so, smaller unsanded part:

anyways, the other blocks went faster and the result is really nice, so this was a bit painful and took time to figure out but I'm really happy with the result.
this more something to see in person, but here is a photo of 3 of those:

this means all the preparations are done. When I'm back to this, it will be pure machining. Sorry this is taking a bit of time, I hope that will be worth it when I eventually finish those. This will be before the end of the year though, I'm not making you wait until next year, no worries!
cheers all

Hello there,
broken part is remade and run is progressing again,
I painted the plates and weathered them, that was one of the big stressful steps. Just one more difficult step, assembling the 4 sides, then it will be a walk in the park until the end :)

Hi there,
assembling the 4 sides of the boxes, first clamping everything in the mill vice, using 2 drill bits to center the holes together.

once clamped in the proper position, tapping the holes:

Now, the bad new is that I ran out of screws for this step, with the two batches and 8 screws per box, I didn't plan for the second run and didn't have enough. So this will have to wait a few days until new screws arrive, and in the meantime, I'll be moving forward only with the 8 assembled boxes.
But that means those 8 first boxes will be finished in the next few days, probably mid next week as we have friends over Monday and Tuesday.
cheers all!

I have milled clean the back and front of the assembled boxes and they are ready to be attached to the back plate and finished.
as I said yesterday, we have friends over tomorrow and Tuesday, but I'll be back to it on wednesday and will finish the first 8. First people from the list, please be ready to pay middle next week, thank you

Hi there,
I received the screws and am caught up with the rest of the run with the 4 boxes that were waiting.
I'm still running a bit slow because of my current health issues, i'm sorry for this, they are almost done, I'll be asking payments this week end normally.
cheers

Assembling the boxes, WIP :)

(surprise stamping on the thick plates, but it's easy to remove with acetone, I'm almost sad to remove it though as it looks kind of cool :))

Guys, I'm sorry, I'm doing my best to finish those soon, but I seem to find myself right in the middle of heath issues lately.
I'm not sure people like to know all the details but you know I'm communicative about my project and my life as they are very intertwined. I don't know if it's just stress and fatigue but I am having issues and going to medical appointments often, and last night because of a new medication I took for the first time, I fainted and am pretty tired because of it now. I'm trying to stabilise the treatment to feel better and I hope to be able to finish this soon.
My wife has forbiden me to work today but I'm not really a fan of doing nothing, so i'll see if I can work a bit this afternoon and hopefully tomorrow.
Sorry again for the sob story, I just prefer to always explain the situation.

thank you for your patience, those are seriously almost done, I have just been slow all along that second batch, starting with Covid then going through those issues in the past weeks.
cheers all!

Hi guys,
I managed to do quite a bit of progress today, the boxes are almost done, only thing left is machining the adapters, fitting the rods and a bit of cleanup :)
so, they should be done tomorrow, and I hate to do this, especially if I'm a bit late on a project, but Christmas approching, i'll be asking for payments right away tomorrow evening in order to try and ship thos quickly.
Of course if someone is worried by the Christmas period shipping, you feel free to let me know if I should hold until next year, or use a faster insured shipping solution, sadly more expensive.

In order to move quickly, you can already check if you have your account and shipping address setup on my website, supergreenprops.com
thank you all for your patience :)
