Here's mine to compare mate. I think your hole template needs moving over to the left to get centered better. That's what I'm seeing anyhoo...
We're never going to get things sitting perfectly John, never 100% accurate, just we do our best!

Thanks Stu. I appreciate your logic. :)

Here's a revised and further up. I think it will work.

Nice work John!
I wouldn't go less than 3". I think that's the magic number for these guys. If anything, a hair over which will probably come about with cutting and sanding.

Totally agree with Treadwell's comments re picture alignment by pulling back a bit. It will reduce the parallax to some degree.

Thanks! Is three inches the standard for all 8 holes?

One cut and sanded. Thoughts?

Looks so small in comparison to the burger, doesn’t it? Like mini-mandible. I know the thing is so big we can’t get head on photos of it without a 15 foot ladder to stand above it. LOL

Starting to smell like victory around here, huh? After more than a year (or 2, or 3, or 10) of research into this darned thing! Looking good John!

Thanks…but it’s wrong. Lol. Screwed up the pinch somehow. Gotta try again. :)

It doesn't look toed-in enough in the photo, but I know how deceiving these can be. You're showing 9" to DR I'm guessing? What about laying out a right side template and get your 6.65" (this is my guesstimate for now), or whatever you're going with. (If you have a big enough piece of cardboard to do that.) Or run a straight edge down centerline to the tip so you can measure? Since there is toe-in the front I am assuming the front 2.4" cut won't be square, if you know what I mean.

Looks good. Did you run a straight edge down centerline too and measure each side from center so you know your square to the burger too? (Not that ILM was square to everything, or anything! LOL) Just one more way to check things and square up. Might end up being asymmetrical anyways.

Okay I need to rethink my armature.

With only a 2 5/8 patty, a 2” pipe isn’t going to work. There’s not enough “meat” to mount it. Also, it’s way too heavy.

Anyone try aluminum pipe? Is it strong enough? Have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
John

People are using 2 inch aluminum pipe on their Studio Scale Galacticas, and that is a heavy beast. Its 1.90 " OD, fairly light and very strong. It's used as hand railings. They also sell various connectors and fittings as well.

Here's a catalog page from Julius Blum who makes the railing system. They also sell a 1.6 inch OD version. It's a little ways down the page. Hope this helps. I bought mine locally from a metal supply co. You might save on cost and shipping if you have a metal supply near you.
