Not sure where this question should go but;

Has anyone done a compare between the 2020 release of the AMT American LaFrance Ladder Chief (1204) and the original version (T-598)? I'm under the impression that 1204 kit has a lot of new parts, but is it still a suitable donor kit? Or do I still need the older T-598 version?

thanks

Don't know if you know about this site. I use it all the time, to see what's been changed over the years. As far as this site there have been parts added in 2020. It hasn't been retooled as far as I know. The box and decals have changed but not the kit. I have the older kit. It's always good practice to get the vintage kit, if you can find and afford it, ; ) I don't know if they removed parts, so I didn't really answer the question, lol..

Thanks, yeah I am a regular contributor to scalemates. I think my user id there is #5 or something like that. As you said it shows that there have been changes, but doesn't go into details beyond that. It's actually what drove me to ask the question here.

I have the newest version from 2020, but will get the older kit and do a 1-1 check. I was just wondering if someone had already done that sort of thing or not.

thanks

Yes...that was a real headache... the best to have a look at the kit itself. I have to check some notes how you can see if you have the right one.
What I can remember is that you can't go straight on the boxart for the release.

Oh ok. Yea I don't know if they just added parts, or changed them. I think the kit scan that is out there is of the older kit. If you need any pics, let me know. I'm not sure if my kit is from the 70s, but judging by the look, it's vintage.

So I came across this today in an auction. The right is...well you know what it is. The left is the new Aoshima 1/48 Jagd-Tiger. Looks like a pretty darn good substitute to me.

We looked at that Aoshima kit also & dismissed it. The details are certainly close to the actual part used, but the problem being is, that there isn't enough 'meat' at the end. The angled plate is too close to the vents.
Could be modded, a little messy though, but doable!.
