Alien / Nostromo Uniforms

so I was jonesing over that one. cool to be recognised.

We were in line at the Star Trek exhibit in San Jose and both my son and I were wearing ours, and someone said to their friend, "Look, it's the ship jacket from ALIENS, the Nostradamus."

My life looked at me and whispered: "O-for-2, Star Trek fans."

:lol

Nostradamus :confused
Anyway, it's cool that the uniform was recognised.

As for the dye: Eventhough the jacket repells water it had no problems taking the dylon powder dye.

That's because the water repellant comes off after a simple washing in the washing machine. So before dying any of these jackets, people, always give it a wash to make sure all the repellant (if there is any left on it) is away.

I love how your jacket came out after the dye, unfortunately I can't find any grey dye here. Only Blue, Red and Black which seem to be the most common.
So you suggest a blue dye first and THEN a grey one?

What I did to the first jacket size 5 was to dye it with blue first. It went way too blue for my taste so I used a package of Dylon color remover on the jacket at 60degrees and it took a very little off the jacket. They recommed to wash it at 100 degree but I think this will shrink the jacket too much. After that I gave the jacket some grey dye.

My second jacket a size 7, I only used grey color. The jacket still seems to repell water but I guess it's the fabric that's different on the newer models.

DROPSHIPBOB :Regarding the size

These jacket can be a little tricky as they are meant to be short and tight and worn with pressurepants.

Jacket label on the size 5 said Hight: 172-181cm. Chest: 86-96cm. But I would not recommed someone at 181cm with a chest 96 to climb into this jacket.

I found this chat below. And I Would say the jacket i a size 40 UK size, that means the same in US size, maybe this will help you. I think you will need a size 8

Ace, would you suggest to try a grey dye imediately or did you get better results with the blue/remover/grey process?
I'm asking because I have one dyed blue and I might consider the following steps of removing the colour like you did at 60° and then dye it grey.

Which process gives best results?

Pics.. I want to see pics...

Sorry, Steve, I didn't see this until just now. I haven't put 'em on his jacket, yet, but Jeff threw in a middle size set as well for when he gets a little older, too!

Yes, I would try to remove as much blue as possible and then dye it grey little by little. I read somewhere that blue is one of the most difficult colors to remove. If you're not able to lighten up the jacket im affraid adding grey will just make the jacket too dark im affraid. But you could always try the color remover again if you think the final result is too dark. Im not sure about the black, but I guess you can try it out. Im no expert in this matter and I know first hand that it's almost impossible to get the SA color on your jacket in your first try.

@dropship bob

re sizing.

I'm 6'3 with a 44 chest and longish arms. my jacket is size 8. I'm not sure if there is a size 9 or not.

size 8 fits me. its short in the body, but then its designed to be.

I just finished these up today. My pretty darn close Nostromo sneakers.
These are the all leather PF Flyers.
I left the top 2 eyelets open, otherwise the D rings would touch each other or overlap when the laces are tightened.
Let me know what you think.

The burning question is: Did you find the d-ring/tab as off the shelf or did you have to cut the (I assume leather) tabs by hand? And did you have to paint them white too?

It really was. First I had to make a jig to hold all the D rings so they could be painted. It took 4 coats of white spray paint just to cover the rings.
Then I cut the strips of leather to the proper width, primed them, folded them through the D rings and then cemented them together. Then I cut them to length, punched the hole, riveted them into place and then painted them 2 more times.
Quite alot of work for something so small.

Hi All, I'm looking to get a Mk.3 jacket. What size should I get? I am 5'7" with a 40" chest.
