Alien / Nostromo Uniforms

Well, I finished my crew jacket a little while back . . . utilized a military-inspired jacket from the gap as a base. It turned out fairly well and I'll get some photos up shortly.

Jonesy.... Dallas wears a British armed forces regimental stable belt with the circular clasp, still worn today, although it's difficult to identify the exact regiment through the buckle alone the belt appears to be dark green ( depending on lighting ) this could be one of three regiments, The Rifles, the Royal Green jackets or The Light infantry all use or used various shades of dark green on their regimental belts. Or it could just be any old green webbing belt attached to the buckle?
Theres quite a lot on ebay UK at present, just search under military, regimental or stable belt.

The original wings worn by Dallas and Kane measured 5 inches by one inch, they were made of gold and silver bullion thread by a company who specialised in heraldic and military emblems ( RAF officer wings ).
You should check the Alien props section on the Propsummit site, under nostromo crew jacket....( page 11 ). It has photos of the screen used Dallas crew shirt with his gold captains wings and Kanes crew jacket with his silver executive officer wings both in bullion thread.
The most screen accurate wings to date are the ones made by Montana, he made the Dallas and Kane wings in bullion, and these are indistinguishable to the ones used in Alien. He only made a limited number of both ( 8 ) due to the time it took and materials, well worth the £30 in my opinion. Whether he has any left to sell couldn't say for certain, but you can find the information over on the Propsummit site in the Alien prop section and prop shop page 5.
As for the Intergalactic and Starbase Atlanta wings these are okay! but are way to small and rigid in my view. I bought the standard wings and nostromo officers patch a few years ago, I twisted and scrunched them up, then washed a few times, took some fine sandpaper and took the shine of the material and picked at the threads to raise them slightly, frayed the edges, cut the tips from the wings and nostromo patch to make them more rounded and screen accurate, cut a v in the centre to give a more upswept shape. Finally I put the patches in some tea and left to steep, washed then repeat. A bit of work but worth the effort in the end, these sit more realistically in the grimy and worn Alien universe, and not like the squeaky clean look of Star Trek.

kane2122 thanks A LOT for your information!
Do you have any picture of your "distressed" wings? I'm curious about the result as I also was planning to do something similar to mine, I wouldn't want them brand spanking new.
I'm not on propsummit forum but I'll have a look, at least to see these screen accurate Montana's patches. I know very little about real-life badges but enough to know that £30 is probably the price you might expect and not an eccessive one either for the kind of item.

kane2122: that information on the belt is great. Thank you.

However, I still couldn't figure out the actual buckle color. On some photos it appears to be black, while on others it looks silver. To add to the confusion, those British forces belt buckles come in black, silver and bronze.

Can anyone shed more light on this? Are there any better shots of Dallas belt than the movie stills around?

Any info is greatly appreaciated.

lol, no it wasn't a grey/gray situation... just that I couldn't find a seller of those in the UK.
I'll check what they have in my local stores

Soren, check out page 2 of this thread post *34 the fifth photo down shows Dallas talking to lambert, (just give me the short version) you can clearly see his stable belt in this photo, and the buckle is silver. Although some regiments have a combined two tone belt, loops black or bronze with silver centre hope this helps.

Kane, thanks again for your info. You're right with the color, it's silver. Thus, I went with the Parachute Regiment stable belt, as the motive seems the best screen fit. It has an all silver buckle and a maroon belt, which I'll bleach and color olive later.

Hi, I'm new to this, it's my first post. Just bought a size 8 MK3 on ebay and can't wait to get going, hopefully I can work out how to put some pics on.

Welcome to the forum.

If you use a free image host like photobucket posting pix will be easy.

I just finished making the lacing strips for the sleeves for mine a few minutes ago.
going to try and add them to the jacket tomorrow, still need to find some lacing for it.

Some green canvas and bias tape.
I'm keeping the jacket green so I went with these colors.
Couldn't find anything in sage and didn't want to cut up a flight suit.
The colors are darker in person.

Thanks for the pic's - that lacing looks great. I'll leave my MK3 jacket green as well, so it looks fine to me.

Nice job on the lacing strips division 6, how have you fastened them to the sleeve?

Who's patch did you use?

They haven't been attached yet, still trying to get them to look right.
They will be sewn on by hand.
I'm thinking of filling the sleeves with a thick card and plastic bags to keep everything from moving around as I sew.

Patches are from someone in this thread.

Hi Jesse,
Been a while.

Wanted something more casual to wear in case I make it down to SDCC again.
And Mike F. still has some of my A2 gear.

Nice job E with the jacket sleeve panels. Hope you get your jacket done soon.

And also "Hi Jesse", I have not heard from you in a long while, hope you are doing well sir.

When you both get your jackets done we need to get together (with Randy too) for a group photo in our respective Nostromo duds!

BTW
... some photos from Comic-con 2010. Randy was doing Steampunk so his wife stepped in as 2nd officer.

Sorry you can't see much jacket details. I forgot to do a snap of the back of the jacket.

And no, I don't sew. This was done with a whole lotta help from those that do.

Cheers,
-Mac

Looking good John.
Maybe next year I'll make it down.

Has anyone found the correct brass snaps for the shirt.
They appear to have some sort of floral pattern on them.
