3D Printed Millennium Falcon Build

This is looking phenomenal! I've been scouring around looking at the PG Bandai Falcon the past few days, but kicking myself I didn't get it two years ago when it was $200 cheaper...seeing this thread though, encourages me that I could produce something similar with my Bambu P1S! Can I ask what files you got off of printables?

Thanks, There is a link to the files on the fist page. I've tried to document the quirks of the file in this thread. I was able to use my modest 3d modeling skills to modify problem parts in Fusion 360 to fill some of the gaps in the fitment. They are not a huge issue and the file is free so can't complain too much. Although, after seeing Dazza's work on his 5 footer model, I am considering this one a test run until he's finished modeling his.

Cool, super helpful. Thanks for the guidance!

I think I am happy with my paint mixes. Time to get some color on this preshaded bird.

Did a lightning test, but the leds seemed to be getting a little hot. Put a thermometer on it and the backside was reading 60C. I’m worried about deformation of the PLA. I am using a 12v supply 10a supply as recommended by the LED strip. Maybe amperage is too high since the strip is cut down (but I thought the supply would only pull amperage it needed). Electrical is not my strong suit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It's looking great! Quick bit of research... the melting point of PLA is about 160 degrees but it starts to soften at 60 degrees celcius.

How long do you plan to have the lights running for?
If you're just flicking them on now and then to admire it or show people I wouldn't be concerned. If you're planning on making it your new table lamp however then perhaps
A) Try a lower amperage as you suggest or I dont know if could even be run at a slightly lower voltage with some dimming.
B) Create a light box back from the engine grille. Then you can foil tape the insides around it and
That should save any issues.

Cheers,
Josh

Got a new strip that is less densely packed with LEDs. Still puts out plenty of light and is only getting up to about 30C.

Looking real good. It''s a lot of work painting the Falcon, literally days of masking and painting.

I wanted to ask what you used as an adhesive on your PLA? Ive found some success with cynoacrylates and quick drying epoxy but also had some issues even after scuffing the contact area and in larger pieces drilling plug holes to allow the adhesive in. Just nothing wants to adhere to it super well. So just curious what your method is?

Just CA glue for most and 5 minute epoxy for structural bonds. Holding strong.
