Tombstone Val Kilmer / Doc Holliday Costume

Bought this fabric to be made into this vest Doc wears. It’s the closest I could find to the original fabric.

Made this bib and suspender tab patterns yesterday and sent them along with my other fabrics to my friend to get everything made. We have the fabric for the OK Corral shirt already so things should move pretty quick with this one. The pattern isn’t perfect, but it will get my friend well within the ballpark as she will tweak it to her liking :)

This bib piece looks like it may include the collar. Is your pattern intended to include that part from the shirt or should it still be added to the pattern?

Also, I am guessing the tabs are intended to be loops?
The original shirt has a band collar with an attachable white wingtip collar (Doc wears this shirt while gambling with the collar on), my shirt in the photograph is just a plain white band collar shirt. The pattern is made for the bib portion of this shirt as the stripes run horizontal and the rest of the shirt has vertical stripes. The suspender tabs are just little pieces of fabric that have been sewn on the sides to allow the suspenders to run through them. We have the correct fabric for this shirt and the correct white wingtip removable collar so it shouldn’t take to long to get it made now  This is just one of many, many shirts that is getting made, and we even have plans to do a few of Wyatt’s shirts as well :)

Not easy to remove that shirt with a 2 button bib + removing the suspenders from the loop. Looks cool for a movie but difficult in real life:unsure:

Is it another transition item that was only present during that time period?
Mid 19th Century. Many designs (and also on Tuxedo) to hide the opening of the button and gaps of the shirt. Cooler design and warmer during the winter. Usually affixed via a loop, attached to the bib and made of the same fabric/material and buttoned at the back (one button).
Collars designs are numerous of course. Some showing, and others...not;) If you undo the collar of a modern shirt, you'll end up with the band only. Still the same old design. You can, then, wear a bib ala Doc Holliday;)

The original shirt buttons are in the back of the shirt, so mine will be there too

Here’s my stand in vest until the correct one is made. I had this one altered by removing the V-cut at the bottom of the vest and making it straight across (like all of Val’s vests), and I had Flat metal buttons added to the vest to match the ones in the movie :)

Just got word from my friend that she now has all the fabric to make my shirt  Striped fabric will be the bib and the solid fabric will be the body of the shirt. The shirt will have a detachable white wingtip collar. Can’t wait to get my hands on this shirt :)
