Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Thanks!
That is BAD A$$ !!!!

Thank you very much.
This is looking great!

I just need to find larger quantity version of that epoxy is all. I might also paint a layer of silver paint on the raw foam.. then epoxy, then paint so if it does crack it'll show the silver beneath. Or is that dumb?
Yep. If you epoxy (or resin) coat the pieces, you can apply the auto paint directly to it. I did that with the handplates for Mikey's suit - It worked GREAT!

I would still suggest adding a layer of adhesive promoter to the epoxy/resin before hitting it with the final paint. I think the effects are felt as the paint hardens over the next few days. It might harden to the point of cracking a bit without a good locking layer. Just a thought.

GREAT work! I can't wait to see some pics!!! :):thumbsup

I also live in the US. And trust me.. I deff don't have a disposable income. I work full time and I'm salaried and all my money goes into bills, house costs, etc. This was a treat for myself.. and something I probably shouldn't have spent money on.
This is both inspirational and upsetting :D I would LOVE to get my hands on one of those helmets, but affording it (especially living in the US) is another matter entirely :(

Damn you beautiful bastards with your talent and disposable income!

I have my own foam MK VI armor going at the moment. It's going pretty well but it is no where near the quality of this build. Nice work man I can't wait to see this ******* finished!

Edit: Bastards as a plural is a-ok, but the singular ******* is not kosher. Z(^_^Z)

Take it step by step. It's not that hard.
Looks great!!! Man i wanna make maybe War Machine but i don't have the patience

Fast? LOL no way! I've been at this for over a year. Thanks though! Cannot wait to see it finished.
Fast builder kip it up men...it's coming along really nicely wow....

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Can't wait to see this in person and all finished!

I like the idea of the silver, not sure if will mess with the epoxy adhesion, definitely test it!

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Hey Chris! Thanks. I emailed you by the way.

Yeah I am messing with diff things to coat/prime the foam first to create a shiny paint friendly surface... so far a 2 part epoxy works.. the stinky rotten egg smelling kind.. lol.. but I can't seem to find it in a larger quantity that I could brush on the entire suit.

What brand are you using? Locktite? You may have to order it off line for larger quantities.. not sure.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Really not sure what I should seal the suit with first before painting. I thought 2 part epoxy, then I thought resin, maybe Mod Podge... or Rosco's flex bond.. but that looks like white glue and nothing more.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

I think I might by some of that Rosco Flexbond and try that. Not sure.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Sorry for all the multiple posts. I am going to go with an Epoxy Primer Sealer like Don Roberts uses on his foam rubber suits.. his suits turn out great so clearly he knows what works. ha!

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

do you know what color paint your planning on using?

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Looks absolutely stunning Jordan : )

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

I honestly have no idea. I do wonder though, what ever sealer you use, if you use the anodizing paints in yellow/gold and red, like what I am using on my Cap shields, to make your suit actually look like anodized metal. They sell a base coat for the paints if they are being used on a non metalic surface, it would be worth a test if you are interested in going that route.

Btw, did you try looking online for larger quantitiy two part epoxy? ... I guess that stuff would weight the suit down though overall, wouldn't it?

Oh, just saw your other post, are you going to use the epoxy primer sealer that Don uses?

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Both legs done!! 8/06

Hey Chris,

Not sure what I am going to do. I might try that Monster Makers Flex Gloss stuff.. that could be a great way to do things.

As for your anodizing paint idea... I don't know if that would work since my foam suit will flex/bend at times.. I'd be worried the suit wouldn't provide enough flex.

Thoughts?

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up - Goofin Around Pics!! 8/09

**** man, this is one of the best foam suits around! Your proportions look great! How are you attaching everything? Have you noticed any mobility issues?

You are too good!

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up - Goofin Around Pics!! 8/09

Just like I thought, that suit is so damn sick bro. It looks like it fits right on like it should. Love it man can't wait to see when you fully suit up

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up - Goofin Around Pics!! 8/09

Thanks! I am glad it fits well also.
AMAZING!! FITS you so perfectly .. definitely looks the part!

Thanks! Shoulder bells are attached with clips.. lower ab section wraps around and connects via rare earth magnets.. the chest and back and brace are all one piece... neck seal is separate and closes with magnets also. The arms are just worn as is.. with two pivot points on each arm.. and I have elastic fit ribbed wrist pieces I made that go on first and then arm slides over. :)

Mobility is great! I am in no way hindered whatsoever.
