The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Based on the information we have and what we’ve seen, we now have a good idea of what to expect when we finally get the chance to open those hallowed boxes.

The final replica design certainly exceeds all expectations at this price point, and I’ll be overjoyed when I get mine. That being said, as with the phaser and communicator, some will want to customize and upgrade their tricorders further. Are there things anyone is planning to change? Perhaps keep one boxed and modify a second tricorder?
I haven't modified my Wand phaser or comm, and I have no intention of modifying the tricorder.

Edit--actually that's not true--I have an aftermarket handle on my phaser. But that's it.

So, let me tell you about my new favorite prop replica.

But first there is a backstory. I have communicated with Chris from The Wand Company off and on for the past few years. When the 11th Doctors sonic came out, I emailed and asked how to take it apart as I wanted to modify it into an extending replica. He helped me out and with a few machined parts, I made it. There’s a 10-12 year old thread on here somewhere about that.

We’ve communicated a few times and on the last update I replied telling him to take their time as they’ve never disappointed and never would.

He emailed me again and we spoke a bit. I then told him that I hoped they rerelease he phaser remote as I had to sell mine a couple of years ago when I had been laid off of work, otherwise I wouldn’t have a full landing party set. My communicator will be buried with me, come what may.

Look what FedEx delivered to my house today.

Chris said that he was touched by my email, rounded up the staff and looked in every corner and in every bin in the warehouse until they found enough pieces to assemble a phaser.

He told me that the acrylic rod does not retract or extend, I don’t care. He actually apologized for it. He gifted me this and was apologizing, but I get it, when you give a gift, you want it to be perfect. And to me, it is.

There is a slight crack on the top plate. That’s from Scotty having to replace it quickly on a shuttle craft.

And a few scruffs on the handle. That’s when Kirk dropped it.

And I love each and every one of them.

There is a short somewhere. The trigger is loose and if I push a wiggle it, the tip will light up, but it doesn’t stay on and no sound just yet. I’ll try and find a thread somewhere here to disassemble it and try to fix it.

Chris did say to be careful about how I brag about this, as this is THE LAST phaser ever to come from their shop. They don’t have any more parts. (So don’t email them linking this thread to it)

This is The Wand Company. These are the people you deal with.

This is why I have been and always shall be their supporter.

Congratulations, this is just amazing! I remember you talking about this and mentioning that you had to sell yours. I thought about how difficult that situation must have been; I could relate. Sometimes, we put those thoughts out there, and they come back full circle as unexpected blessings. Good on you, man! It looks even more beautiful with this backstory.
SHE IS GORGEOUS. (y)

Thank you, and update, got the electronics working. The select switch on the P1 was a bit stuck. Some fiddly jiggly and now it works. I took the P1 out, re-seated it and it got fiddly again. I’ll have to did into it at some point n

I recall coming across someone having this issue some years back, and they possibly had a workaround. Do some searches; it’s not a big discussion, but the convo may have been embedded in another Wand phaser topic. I’ll look too - it wasn’t too long ago when I saw it.

One of the pins are damaged.

Has anyone got a suggestion for me?

Here’s the link: Help with battery selection for Wand Star Trek TOS phaser rebuild

I had the same problem and used a bit of solder attached where the former pin was. Yes, it will break off over time, but it's a good temporary fix that lasts a while.

I just used a tiny bit of solder shaped to replace the pin. It worked fine. Yes, it will eventually break off, but it's a good temporary fix.

I feel the same way. In my correspondence with them, Chris and Charlotte have been unfailingly kind and enthusiastic. I like them. Congratulations on your gift!
