Read the article, never just the headlines! Regarding his "Longtime Health Battle", in a Parade article 6/27/2025 he simply reported that he has Tinnitus and is seeking donations to a nonprofit called Tinnitus Quest. Everyone relax.
If you don't mind taking the tricorder apart and if you know how to solder, yes you can fix it.
The man is a Highlander…he will never die as long as he keeps taking heads.

I wish there was a cure. Been dealing with it for over three years. Came on in one day after a medical issue. Never had it prior. It sucks .
I get it every once in a while for a few minutes, then it’s just gone. I can’t imagine suffering with this chronically. On a side note: One (possible) cause of certain types of tinnitus is loose ear crystals, known as otoconia. In Mr. Shatner’s case however, these might be microscopic Dilithium Crystals. Just sayin’.

Glad you were excited. That click once every three seconds varies in prominence from Tricorder to Tricorder. It is a result of how the software processes the scanning loop. We have a software fix for it and we are testing it prior to rolling it out for all fans who want to update their Tricorder. It will help us to track the issues and work with them in a coherent way rather than trying to respond across many different types of communication vectors.

Sorry man. A friend of mine got it after attending a rock concert. He’s had it for like ten years now. His condition fortunately is not constant. But he has triggers that set it off. He says it’s a real pain. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Ooooh! An update! An update!!! I actually never noticed the clicking till I read this and tried it. This will be cool--a software update for my real tricorder!
