The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

You stated “I read somewhere that toward the end they were updating the Tricorder's software via the USB-C connector.”

Perhaps the USB-C “is” now dual use! Given the pictures below both from the TWC website….the pic to the right shows the sd card slot gone. Which would mean that perhaps the Factory Reset statement wasn’t updated to reflect a change. It looks way “natural” without the slot, you must agree….

I could only hope it’s true…

I think the one on the right is a rendering, not a photo.

Y’know, inspired by this thread, I spent this afternoon disassembling and refurbishing my Tricorder A prop replica. The pivoting action on the hood has always been a little too loose, and it’s bothered me for years, so I shimmed it ever so slightly.

Despite now being happy with it, and having a highly-accurate replica, I still want the Wand version, of course.

I remember signing up for this and receiving the certificate, but I’ll be damned if I can find that email. Hopefully I’ll still get a notification when a tric is available for me to purchase.

Yikes! I hadn't noticed this before, but the Tricorder's temperature readings are in--GASP!--Centigrade! There's nowhere on the Settings screen to select Fahrenheit! What has happened to Merry Olde England? So sad. Great Britain, now... just... Britain. Can we even still refer to Fahrenheit, feet, and inches as Imperial measurements?

I don't understand the world anymore. :p

In other news, I downloaded a conversion app for my phone. Haven't used paper and pencil to convert temperatures since high school chemistry.

Double it and add thirty. Gets it within a degree or two in F degrees .

Can’t remember any episodes where any “metric” units were mentioned. Especially in measurements of planets atmosphere or topography…etc.

What, me math? I went to law school, dude! :p

Can’t remember any episodes where any “metric” units were mentioned. Especially in measurements of planets atmosphere or topography…etc.

It was rare, but NOMAD was 1 meter, 500 Kg. Scotty called out "Gsc" units when Apollo was crushing the Enterprise hull, and that stands for grams per square centimeter. That's all I can remember of the top of my head.

It may be that the novels used metric almost exclusively. What about the TOS movies?

Did find this about the Klingon’s in the movies…

“unit: The most common unit of length is called 'uj. In KGT, this is described as "about 35 cm"(1), but based on the numbers on the Bird Of Prey Poster, it comes to 34.83 cm. unit: A larger unit of distance is the qelI'qam or "kellicam", which is defined as approximately two kilometers.”

Switching between metric and standard would have been nice for the tricorder.

Chalk up another fun response from Chris over on the tricorder blog:

Hey guys, do the Captain’s Log entry episodes appear on the tricorder in broadcast order or production order? The two are wholly different.

The Captains Logs are arranged in broadcast order. However, there will be a searchable online directory of all the logs which we intend will include other information about the logs and their production order.

I've seen the page, but it's just a placeholder graphic right now. I'm sure it'll be very cool when it's up and running. :)
