The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

Well, at this early date at least. In the future, I am hoping for some creative modding of the computer programming by the community. :)

Despite what Chris B. said about the micro sd card slot……..I’m still waiting on a ‘Braver than I’…..soul here…..to insert a blank msdc and one with a variety of file types ….just to see if the indicator on the engineering screen even recognizes it and changes from “EMPTY” to something else….

If it does recognize something in the slot….then hack cough cough ing…may be a future possibility.

If TWC comes out and says….we have a software update. How do you think they would set that up for the end user “us” to implement it?

Btw….TWC already inserted a black plastic non-functional, non-electronic, blank to prevent dust from getting in the slot. You’ll have to eject the piece of plastic before inserting a MSDC usable electronic blank or one with files. It’s a spring loaded ejection slot I believe. Which means press in the plastic blank slightly so the spring will eject the plastic blank out.

It looks like that will happen, as several members here have already mapped out flowcharts (if not the actual coding ) for certain upgrades.
Were such charts/coding posted here - or somewhere else on the Forum? Or have these members simply spoken about such work they have been doing?

It will be interesting to see how that unfolds, and whether it’s loaded through the SD or another bypass.(y)
I'm hoping for through the SD card, since that allows for variations in amount of data the Tricorder can hold (ultimately, I'm hoping to be able to play entire episodes on the screen :) ).

Let me rephrase that. It has been ‘implied’ that several of the code-savvy members here, in discussions posted here, are working on “stuff”.

My little shrine.

(The derpy clipboard is a stunt one I made for Continues.)

I’m almost willing to bet the farm Tegrity…..this is the gray erasable material stuff they used on the Star Trek clipboard for writing a bazillion times over and over…

Probably still find the stuff on eBay Etsy…..you can strip out from the cardboard backings….to use on the clip board.

Is that even possible? Didn't think you could just programme something like this. I was under the impression that any updates, new screens, add ons, ability to use the SD card etc would have to be done by wand based on their coding.
Sorry if I sound like a n00b, I dont really get coding and programming in this sense.

More interesting logistics information (which I'm posting since Amazon has been opaque in regards to its warehousing/logistics in regard to the tricorder).

My updated tracking info on USPS still says "USPS Awaiting Item TUCSON, AZ". But more information has propagated through both USPS and Amazon systems. USPS now indicates that the package was originally picked up by the still unnamed "Shipping Partner" yesterday, July 17th at 2:28 pm. In other words, it had already SHIPPED, and hour and a half BEFORE I spoke with Amazon (when Amazon was still saying only "Pending" and not even "Processing" let alone "Shipped"). In other words, Amazon's own Supervisor-level internal data substantially lags behind Amazon's actual shipping activities.

Amazon's tracking information seemingly confirms this report by USPS, with an UNdated and UNtime-stamped "Package Left the shipper facility" (meaning Amazon doesn't want to identify to the customer WHEN shipping actually began, nor by WHOM exactly). Moreover, an additional update indicates "Package arrived at an Amazon facility. Phoenix, AZ US" at 1100 PST (an hour and a half ago from the time of this post). This means that the Tricorder left a warehouse of some kind somewhere (associated with, but perhaps not belonging to Amazon, because it doesn't say "Package Left the *Amazon* shipper facility") and has gone TO an actual "Amazon" facility, where - presumably - it is either being sorted for pick up by the various different delivery services or is being sorted into different Amazon trucks for delivery to the various delivery services. This still seems to be within the timeframe of Amazon's "plan" the Supervisor imparted to me yesterday that indicated USPS would receive the package around 1500 PST (the time relayed by the Supervisor was more specific - ie provided to a specific minute supposedly - but I don't recall the exact time he gave me). So it will be interesting to see if their planned logistics is actually that accurate.

EDIT: Same day, around 9pm PST. So the package still has not been delivered to USPS by Amazon. Currently, the only update on the package's status is on Amazon's site, which declares: "8:38pm PST: Package left an Amazon facility Phoenix, AZ, US". So much for Amazon's "plan" to have the package in the hands of USPS by today at 3p PST.

I haven't been privy to the aformentioned 'flowcharts/coding' conversations, so I can't say specifically. But any computer programming can be 'hacked' (modded) if one has the right equipment and knowledge. And Leinads makes it sound like the members having these discussions indeed possess such knowledge at least. Of course having TWC do it for us would make it easier for everyone. But Chris from TWC has made it clear that any such coding (beyond, perhaps, patches like the scanning sound 'click' glitch) is NOT a priority for them at all in the near (or even intermediate) future.

Still $415
Will ship August 18

Heard that one before….

That’s a great way for Chris B. to say “Nothing to see here folks…now move along”

Then TWC should have never disfigured the side of the hood by placing a card slot that will, according to Chris B.’s attitude, won’t see use for sometime to come.

Oh the Horror! Oh the Humanity!

Oh…I get it now….. :)

Yeah, it's a shame.

Yeah, it's a shame.

Someone smarter than me for 3D printer design should ……design a thin cover plate at the same dimensions of the side of the hood with the msdc slot…and then tack glue it to cover the entire hood side with the slot hole included.

The cover plate has to be thin enough, that once tack glued, the hood would still be able to open and close without interference. I don’t know how much wiggle room there is between the side of the hood and the inside side of the Tricorder.

Some texturing may be needed….but that too can be 3D printed embedded into the cover plate.

If you never plan to take it out of the box, you only need to buy the box!

Brilliant! That will be a lot cheaper!
It's all so clear now!

I used to get annoyed at people selling empty boxes on the bay of e. Now I know: they're not trying to take advantage of people, they are just giving the thrill of ownership, without the high expense!
