The Video Game Thread - anything and everything...

I played the first one and enjoyed it, but only once, and never played beyond that. I held off on playing 2 until 3 came out, and after the whole "LOL your decisions don't matter, we are nihilists" debacle with the end of 3, and them never returning to Shepherd, I decided not to bother investing the time. Plenty of other good games for me to enjoy.

I get what you say about the ending, it left me really dissapointed. Still have not played ME3 again, but atleast it got a little less bad with the expanded endings.

I’d definately give the remaster a chance, the story in 1-2 and most of 3 is really good.

All talk about Fallen Order made me start a new playthrough, it looks even better on Series X.

- Brutal Legend. I don't know if you ever played this one, but if you're a heavy metal fan, do yourself a favor and pick this up. It's dirt cheap on pretty much any platform where it's available, and it's just friggin' fun.
Pretty much anything Tim Schaefer/Double Fine ever produced is a fun play through.

For anyone interested in old/obscure/indie titles I strongly recommend setting up an account over at GOG.com as well as Epic. GOG has a huge library of free old/obscure/indie game and offer newer games from time to time along with free expansions/DLC for some games that you might already own. Epic offers a free game every Thursday, usually some obscure or indie title but occasionally the AAA tittle as well, I got the entire Arkham series for free through Epic. The great thing about both of these is that you can claim the title but not have to download until you're ready or want to, just keep them online in your library. GOG can also be synched with Steam and vice versa, so your games will appear in both libraries.

Twitch is also another good service for non AAA games, but not as good as Epic or GOG, in my opinion. But, a free game is a free game and they offer several every month. Between the 3 services, I'm sure that there's plenty of games to try out for those looking for something a little different.

 Seriously?!?! Go play 2 and 3 now! The ending of the third game is honestly not that bad. The game is great right up to the last 15 mins and they did add a video that helps soften the blow. I can't really say any more because it would spoil things, but don't let that stop you from playing them.

I probably won't get the remasters until they are discounted. I played all three games around this time last year and they still are perfectly playable and look fine to me. The first game's graphics are obviously aging, but not enough to turn you off of the game. I'm more concerned when they say they are unifying the interface or making customizable armor the norm. I liked having different armors in the first game, I just wish they actually looked more different from one another. I think they should keep the game looking how it looked originally without changing too much. It's like when a mod comes out for a game that says it has enhanced graphics, but some bonehead on the mod team decides to completely change the texture instead of making it look better.

I haven't played any of the Far Cry games and I saw there's a nice sale for them on Epic games. Should I buy the whole series? Are there ones I should skip? I definitely want FC5. It seems like it's regarded as the best one.

Check that: I guess FC3 is considered the best. I'll pick that up too.

FC4 wasn't bad either. I liked 3 and 4 over 5. But I like to sneak up and do takedowns with style, but in 5 the takedowns lookes horrible.

3 and 4 are Ubi formular. But well, it's kinda ok there.

I've played them all, but the first couple are a not the same as FC3+. Every one of them are different, completely different stories and locales but I've enjoyed every single one of them. Keep in mind that they have half-sequels for 3-5, additional games that take place on the map of the previous entry and they are usually pretty decent too. New Dawn was an expansion of the story of 5. Primal was a stand-alone on the same map as 4. I think all of them are a lot of fun if you're into shooters. I'm just waiting for them to get 6 out.

I played FC2 and was underwhelmed, then played FC3, was underwhelmed, but I did like FC5. It's not the best game, but it was still fun and an interesting location. I would skip the DLC for FC5 because it wasn't very fun, though there's some funny dialogue in the Mars DLC.

I haven’t played the Far Cry games but from what I understand, 2 is the most “innovative” with guns that wear down over time, 3 is the trend setter, and 4 and 5 are good but follow the formula established in 3.

I am interested in the Mass Effect remasters since I completely missed the PS3/360 generation and missed some gems. I agree that it does seem like there arnt many “completely” new games because of the cost.

it’s also crazy how much microtransactions make for publishers. It would be ideal if people chose not to purchase microtransactions and thus encourage publishers to stop focusing on them but there are many problems that would be solved if we could control our vices lol.

So I started playing Far Cry 5 and...
I chose not to arrest the Father in the beginning and the game ended so I won I guess haha. Now I'm currently watching the longest end credits I've ever seen. Seriously it's comically long. There's gotta be a few thousand names at least. Good music though so I don't mind. Just want to see it through to the end for any hidden cutscenes before I restart.

Nah that’s the true ending. Congratulations on beating the game lol.

Trust your gut. If you've got a feeling you'd have more fun doing something else, you're right.

It was one of the first games where you had to repair your weapons. However, you would literally buy a gun and it would be rusting after you fired it once or twice! It was nuts, so not very realistic.

That's an interesting one. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it got...weird, too. The follow-up game isn't bad, either, although I haven't finished it, nor all the crazy-ass DLC that 5 has.

Far Cry games are fun, highly repetitive, usually gorgeous, and tend to have in-game cut-scenes that drag on too long.

I advise buying them on sale exclusively. Never pay full price.

The thing that attracted me to FC5 was it's co op campaign so my cousin and I are currently playing it together. Really fun game so far and yeah it's pretty weird.

When it comes to Far Cry games, FC3 Blood Dragon was an amazing game with tons of fun, well, everything. The graphics, guns, music. It's all amazing.

On a side note, I was recently able to get a Steam Index, and I can't tell you how amazing Half-Life: Alyx is. VR in general is just amazing. Also, Pistol Whip is a WORKOUT. It's fun but I can only play so much every day. Getting better as the days go on.

So in my wait for the Mass Effect remaster I started playing Andromeda for the first time.

It’s pretty meh, I get all the complaints, but good enough to pass the time.
