Ray, its Urethane foam. the very dense kind. not as hard as wood, but carves great and takes primer good.

You can do a search for Urethane tooling foam. there a few places that sell it. sign shops carry it.

I order mine from here. General Plastics Manufacturing Company - Polyurethane Foam Products
under products look up rigid foam..

Ok, got this part almost ready to mold. still need to make a small vent on either side of the foam part,who says you cant scribe panel lines into foam. then i can mold this.

Also started on the hydraulic supports for the main engines and will have more on the cone later this week.

Beautiful build up. This Ship is one of my favorite parts of Alien Resurrection. Quick question where you gonna put it once your done this thing is huge ?. And if you got the room Are you gonna make the wall gantries and all that is was hooked up to in the movie. That setup would be a great way to display the model.
