Well maybe not extract but ya the blend of silver to black is going to be really hard with rattle can spray paint. From what I’ve seen an airbrush can accomplish this feat though. Give it a nice blend.

Recently created an accurate Sight and Slide substitute for the Denix. This is the c96 version but I‘ve also have created the MGC version as well. Works really nicely and another subtle improvement towards the Denix..

Here’s a before and after pic of the PS/RIA Bapty constructed DL-44 I recreated finally finished up. I designed it last summer but only had it printed towards the end of ’22. Commission builds keep me from painting it but recently made it a priority to finish this one for myself. All controversy aside its kind of fun to think that at this moment there is only two like this in our galaxy.. the actually prop that went to auction and this here recreation,

I forgot to take off the “Carson lump” when remodeling my ANH Hero into this blaster so it’s got a blunder but again this one is mine so I can live with for the time being. Ive already fixed the file and eventually will reorder the top receiver but maybe not. For this build im not to bent out of shape over it honestly. All parts were created in Solidworks and then printed on a MJF printer. With the exception of the scope wheel which is resin so as to capture the specific detals. I also recently got an airbrush and using it on this blaster. Still a long ways from figuring out how to use it correctly butt it is nice to be able to hit small parts that would be impossible with a spray can..

Sorry guys for interupting you. I got here accidently looking for some technical drawing of c96, which I am modeling for personal project. You guys discussed here earlier a pretty nice model of c96. I read all the pages at this thread, it was interesting reading, but I didnt´t find all the answers, for what I was looking for. One really nice help was for me a handle, for what I found here some advice. I was strugling with it a few days to get it to some normal shape, and your content was helpful. Now I only have some troubles to remodel a barrel shape. It is propably mix of bad dimensions of breechblock and outer barrel diameter. I am pretty close to it, I will pin a image of it too here. But is it somewhere possible to download a model of c96 you remodeled earlier? Because I found only thingiverse page with some models for blaster. I don´t have any replica of original gun near me, so all dimensions are made from images. If I got a model of it, I would like to check them (these dimensions of course) and find where I do a mistake.

I dont have a model to share sorry. But you can definitely recreate a lot of this stuff from pictures alone. Its not impossible just dont get hunkered down by trying to be “exact”.. close does count. Besides once you start shaving away, you will find what you are looking for! Good luck to ya sir! Maybe start a build/design thread where we can see your progress and receive feedback along the way? Food for though.. cheers!

Here is a Hensoldt scope i’ve been working on. Recently invested in an airbrush and it works wonders. This is only the 2nd time I’ve used it and a long way from getting the hang of it but I already like what I’m seeing. Great tool for weathering to say the least..

Also everything pictured was designed up and 3d printed using MJF (resin/scope wheel & base) including all the screws. It had to be simply because I couldn't find screws small enough so why not design them as well was the thinking. We live in some good times!

That paint job is freakin' outstanding! Any tips or a brief tutorial? WOW!

Sorry to be just responding to this now. Nothing crazy honestly. After priming and sanding I use a “steal” spray paint all over, then rub some matte black acrylic paint in different area and finish with the airbrush. Lightly sand (800) away areas and then re-add some airbrushing as needed. It’s not simply as basic as that and it’s also time consuming as you need to let the paint full dry but honestly that’s pretty much it.

The most important part I think (outside the actual CAD work obviously) is the priming and sanding to get that smooth base. These MJF prints are not cheap but they do sand smooth pretty quickly without losing much (if any) detail at all which is nice.

Just unloading a bunch of pics of a recent ANH Hero on a modified Denix.

Using a mini mill to upgrade the denix while all the conversion kit parts were designed in Solidworks with the majority being printed in MJF with a couple in Resin (Flash Hider, scope wheel, scope wheel base & c96 sight)..

Honestly, when are you gunna start selling the STL files mate!? These things are epic.
Don’t think I’m going to sell them after a lot deliberation. I know I could make some money but the trade off is I would lose ownership of something I put a lot years into creating. I’ve shared files in the past only to see someone else take full credit for them and continue to sell them for their own profit to this day. It’s clearly plagiarism 101.

So in stead I will eventually get myself my own printer and print one offs for people who are interested. If you are interested in a print down the line let me know. Sorry but again I feel its in my best interest not to sell files at the moment.

I definitely appreciate the kind words and the interest.

Given that you're printing them via Shapeways already, have you considered making them public-facing there? I don't know how much takeup you'd get: Shapeways is expensive, though on the flip side they're also quite reliable (I know personally I'd probably be more comfortable buying from Shapeways than from a new-to-the-3d-printing-experience individual) but it might be a way for anyone who really wants these specific parts to get them, whilst letting you retain control on the IP (and maybe even make a little money for that future 3d printer).

Just asking from curiosity, really - there are plenty of sources for DL-44 and Mauser C96 STLs out there, and I personally am much more of a "idealised" builder than an "accurate to the prop" so your files probably wouldn't be my best option in any case. Which is not intended as a slight on your amazing work - I can both admire the results you get and not want one for myself at the same time. :)

Vagabond Elf I’m not offended at all. I fully get it. Shapeways is great but very, very expensive. But do have parts up there for anyone who is interested. Most aren’t even marked up. SLS is just super expensive and 3d printing in general still has a “cheap” stigma to it. So I think it scares most people off. That and you are correct as there are a lot of free STL DL-44 files out there as alternatives. I am a bit of a DL-44 snob though so forgive if I don’t champion most if not all of those designs. I wouldn’t trash them either as for some it’s a great, affordable option that is readily available. Regardless shapeways is also a great option that is definitely available as well.

You know I wouldn’t necessarily class myself as new to 3d printing either but I get what you are saying. Truth is I would not make my parts available if I didn’t believe in them. I did have an FDM printer back in 2017 but didn’t like the print lines or the quality/strength either at the time. It was a LulzBot printer I believe that certainly wasn’t cheap. Personally I wasn’t a fan especially with what I was trying to accomplish back then. But I may have judged it a little too harsh looking back. It’s hard to go directly from SLS to FDM. But times are advancing and some of these printers today do look amazing. I still have those original prints actually collecting dust..

We have more options available today than we have ever had it the past. More power to all of us. And if you know or want to learn CAD then the world is truly your oyster as well. I would be the first person to champion that path! Truly nothing better than creating something yourself from scratch..

Since I found those FDM prints and this topic of conversation I wanted to see how smooth I could get with some sanding and primer. It’s only been about and hour and they turned out pretty good actually which is very encouraging..

Yeah that's fair I guess.

My take is that....well.....I have a Formlabs Fuse at work, so paying for someone elses SLS prints just seems like a waste of time and money at my end.

Having said that, if you want to sell prints, by all means shoot me a price and we'll see what we can do. I'd love to have one - I just don't love it enough to do my own reverse engineering - especially considering the amazing deep-dive you've already done.

wgdesign thanks for understanding. Fuse 1 plus? That’s a darn nice printer. I obviously won’t be using anything quite like that. I’ve been following those printers from the day they were announced. “Only” 10 grand for one back then. That price changed quickly though.
