Oh ya here’s small sample of all the trail and error parts along the way..

The idea of acquiring all the authentic parts to make an Obi-Wan saber is the equivalent to finding the lost ark!

It’s not financially realistically attainable if you are just starting now. The price of these parts because of Star Wars have gone through the roof and are nearly impossible to find so for me this is going to be truly the next best thing! Don‘t underestimate the value of creating something yourself when possible. At this point it’s still a work in progress and it’s mostly surface level in detail but damn if it’s not got me chomping at the bit to finish it!

There’s way to many people to give individual shout outs to as I‘ve collected tons and tons of pics along with bookmarked many a threads here on TheRPF including this amazing one by @Sym-Cha “The Ultimate Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi Real Vintage Parts Lightsaber Group”.
Adding this thread as well by @Sabs “ANH Obi-Wan Lightsaber measurements guide” to the mix makes this journey that much more attainable as well..

Once I finish getting all the parts designed up the next step is to tie them all together using threads so each will simply screw onto the next..

Those both look really good! You're getting great results out of that printer, what filament are you using?

Thanks! I’m honestly still figuring things out but these BL printer’s make the learning curve that much easier. As far as filament it’s all BL PLA. For what’s pictured here I used.. Silk silver & gold, gray & blue metal, tough black & grey as well as matt brown. I also use their support filament as well. Everything is printed at .12 layer height as well.

The deeper one gets the more specific things become..

Now that I got the OB1 saber pretty much designed up how I want it..

Next I would like to see if I can get the grenade neck, grenade body and possibly the booster to all thread on and come to a rest just how they did on the film prop itself. As well I wanted to add the cotter pins and two screws on the Graflex.

This, for those that don’t know is the Star Wars Chronicles version I’m trying to replicate..

That will be very cool. Which of the version Obi was the Chronicles one?

One thing I haven’t been able to see on any prod/pre/post pics is the writing on the gold ring. Has that writing been seen onscreen or in pics?

The Ultimate Guide to Lightsabers eBook
by SethS is an amazing resource for that info. But from my understanding it’s the saber after filming when it started to fall apart so they started adding little pieces here and there to hold it together. This prop, similarly to Han’s Hero DL-44 was lost to history and it’s these SWC pictures that are the last known photos of it. ? I could be wrong as I’m just gathering info myself.

There is subtle differences throughout the film with this saber though. Different sabers as well depending on what was being filmed and lastly it’s one of these OB1 variants that became Luke’s in ROTJ. Recycling before it was popular :)

At the risk of starting a PS flame war, shouldn’t you say… everything but the scope was lost to history??

Yes 100%! My bad.

Also as far as the writing on the Grenade Neck goes.. ya you can’t really see much of anything in the actual film prop photos (at least the photos that are available anyways). But pretty much every picture I’ve seen of a real Grenade Nick the writing seems to be there. Just very warn off on some and that’s my uneducated guess as to why it’s not “seen” on the film prop maybe? Just very warn down.. ?

The writing is easily removable as well but I definitely wanted to start with it.

In hope to not disturb the ongoing discussion, but I would like to ask you guys a quick question:
I want to start with my Denix DL-44 build any time now. Got all the parts together, but one fundamental question remains regarding the paint of the Denix. I saw few people do nothing to the Denix model and just let it be. Others are sanding the black paint down, and either a) spray them with black paint or b) burnish them with chemical oxid. The last option would be my prefered one, but some are saying that it is very hard to burnish the Denix because it is made of pewter.
What would you suggest, or how are your experiences regarding this matter?

Roobyoo no worries.

Myself I use to paint the denix (still do sometimes) but now I mostly use “Aluminum Black” after either modifying the denix or simply sanding away what I don’t want. But the biggest part of this process IMHO is after applying the AB make sure to use some “Steel Wool 0000” to rub it down. After it’s dried of course. Otherwise the AB will be all splotchy and for a lack of a better word.. ugly.

Here are some previous builds I’ve done myself using this method. It’s all subjective of course and maybe the finish is not for you but I do like how it gives it a natural weathering effect as well..

Good luck with the build!

chubsANDdoggers Thank you for your fast reply, and foremost for providing informations and pictures of your builts! Your blaster surfaces look awesome. I'm all in when it's about weathered/used looks, especially with OT items. Your 2023 ANH Hero looks exactly like an MGC version even. Great work!
