Thanks for the question, Dan. I’ll give the short version since I still need to write it up in post 2&3 at the top…
The few major points to look at:
The pommel:
- #373 and the belt hanger both share a couple features. Wider cube diameter, and a noticeably longer top slope of the cube.
Booster gap:
- in side by side comparisons, the belt hanger does not appear to have the extended gap between the pommel and the booster, (by comparing it with the other hilt photos- it throws off the proportions otherwise and does not line up).
Greeblies:
- The greeblie position and shape on each hilt is unique- from what we can see on the belt hanger it appears to have the noticeably proud, tall, thin copper greeblie as opposed to the short, wide, domed rivet style.
Windvane:
- the copper windvane on #373 has a noticably shorter length between the brass and the emitter.
The belt hanger shares this feature, a much shorter copper section than the other hilts. One way to see that it is shorter is observing the groove reads about half way up the neck… whereas the other hilts have the a longer section on the emitter side.
- in behind the scenes footage, Ewan pulls his belt hanger up during a gaffe on the elevator. You can see clearly- that the brass windvane is solid, and does not feature the darkened inner ring like the other hilts.
Refraction:
Also just examining surface quality of (namely) the windvane sections: they refract like turned brass and copper.
Correlating:
The display case hilt appears to be used in the tight-frame close ups specifically.
Checking the color balance against the film and other photos of the case- can be matched to the neck color tones.
The pommel has the same lathe ring around the hole as well.
(In other photos around the hilt you can find the pommel idiosyncrasies indicative of being the casting master for the other pommels)
