OK crunch time.

This tube bag should be $350USD + shipping.

Shipping to the US is based on weight. I am not sure when Australia Post changed this (it used to be based on cubic volume or weight and you payed the higher amount) and the quote I got today for upto 3KG was really good.

Now to kick this off, I am going to buy the 5, 800mm x 800mm sheets of 4.5mm ABS and make one bag up. Based on how it turns out and what your feedback is, will determine the next step for this project. I am hoping to get either 0.6 or 1.0mm clear for the ends.

Home stretch! Are you thinking you'll send them assembled now since volume isn't a concern?

This is amazing and I am still in ;) FYI, I am located in Germany

You are on the list, so yes.

The only catch with the EU is that they do charge an import fee for anything over 150euro. And this is payable by you.

Yeah, I know. Every time an expensive hassle for me at the customs office as most cool things come from out of EU

It is a percentage of the listed price.

A few years ago, I was selling an anamorphic lens and, well you can only imagine how much that was on top of the $5k list price.

Plastic!

This is 4.5mm thick and I have 6 sheets.

I hope I don't sound rude, but arent the handles supposed to start out skinny and get thicker? Is your way just a design choice for better stability?

Yes they are and on the earlier version, I did have a shorter handle bar. The problem is because I am vacuum forming, there are things it just won't do without causing other issues. So I had no choice but to extend the bar to edges. This does increase stability dramatically. Another thing I have done is to add what is called a return edge. This also helps with strength.

If I go back to the female tool, then it might be possible to shorten the handle as that will be an extra part. I still have a bit of R&D to go as I discover my way with this.

The really cool part about the design as is, is there is only 5 vacuum formed parts. All that is needed is 2 windows for the end caps.

Based on this screen grab, the body can not be 180 degrees as my lids won't open up that far.

Thoughts?

So I modded the body to allow the lids to open further.

Still only 5 main parts but I am going to change the way I make the handle recess and the end caps.

I also have a J shape aluminium extrusion that I think will make this prop practical. Right now all the load bearing is up to the end caps and if I use the extrusion, all the load goes to the body and lids. Stay tuned for more.

And it looks like I have found a source of "smart glass". It is a film that can be attached to virtual any plastic or glass surface. When connected to what seems like the same 3v inverter used to power EL panel, then energised, the film turns white.

This will be an optional extra. Price to be advised.
