New Studio Scale X-Wing Revisited

Let's not forget that the $750 price tag included the armature. They did say that they would revise the price without the armature. Am I right? So if it were around $ 200.00 less the price would be spot on. This is the best kit out there but I don't think the "where else you gonna get one" attitude is necessary. Those that can afford one will and those who can't may end up with a PY or CC. I spoke with a few members who were putting off buying an x until they got the price on this . I think both will be going for another instead simply because of the price factor. It's not a question of what it's worth.. Just a question of what they can afford. I was thinking of getting two myself. But I'll definitely get one.

Sorry guys, $750 is cheap.

Build one from scratch if you think it's too much. That'll wake you up.

What he said. Times 100.

Try not to think about it too much, but would bet that I've spent more than ten thousand dollars over ten years in the pursuit of the perfect hero X-Wing miniature replica. Probably more than that, if I'm feeling really honest.

Then add in who knows how many thousands of hours poring over photo reference, calculating angles, interpreting highlights and shadows, researching the dozens of brands and sizes of heatsinks, u-channel and plastic brick sheet to find the correct stuff, making and correcting drawings, hunting for production-sourced castings, and obtaining and identifying the model kit parts used to make the originals from the hundreds of kits that I've purchased on pure speculation.

There's so much more to these kinds of projects than the necessary replication materials, like RTV and resin. I won't be purchasing one of these guys' kits, but only because I'm still working on my own scratch builds, and definitely not because of the price, which seems perfectly reasonable to me for what they're producing.

And who's out there buying eFx models for $750? If you can swing that and you're happy with it, why bother bellyaching about the price of this kit here? What these guys have created from scratch looks way better than the eFX model, anyway, IMO.

Boy, I was so in, but $750 is about twice what I'd pay. Sorry guys. I'm out. Good luck with this.

Looks like it's worth every penny to me, but what do I know?
Lol! I didn't see the name of who wrote this then I slid my bar over and saw REL, Lol. I bought Richards RMQ Concept X-wing last Christmas for myself because I loved that design as a child and I felt it was worth it also knowing that it wouldn't be a kit that you would find sitting on a Toy R Us shelf, so no one got X-Mas gifts last year, January's rent was late, but I was happier than a pig in you know what when UPS came to the door with that box, so the moral of the story is if you have the money and thats what makes you happy buy it the landlord could wait an extra week or two :lol.

...but it's usually viewed as poor form to bash the price in the thread of the kit's maker. You do indeed have the right to you opinion - I was just voicing mine too...

It's also against the code of conduct

Code of Conduct said:
9) Price "bashing" is not allowed. If you don't like the price of an item, don't complain about it, just don't buy it. If you are interested in buying an item for less than the displayed price, send the seller a pm (personal message), and make them an offer. If the seller says "no" or doesn't reply, move on.

I would agree that the price is reasonable for what you are getting, a Studio Scale X-Wing and a Machined Armature.

For those not familiar with an X-Wing Armature, a quick search for "Armature" or you can check out these threads:

I think we need to get this thread back on topic.

Kit looks Awesome!

Hi there:
It's been a week of lots of posts and different opinions about the price of our kit. We perfectly understand the economic reasons of all of ya, but we also have to take into account all the costs in money and time that producing one of this kits means to both of us.

There has also been a lot of speculation about the armature included in our basic kit so here you have the pics of it:

First the aluminum axis and the octagon. AS you can see you can attach the X-Wing from 3 different faces of the octagon and 1 more in the axis just as the ILM models.

Up to here our armature is quite the same, but we changed the support for the wings for a highly resistant resin strengthened with steel wire. Why?

Because we couldn't find anyone skilled enough to make us that aluminum parts here for a reasonable price. We constructed three full aluminum armatures and they were a nightmare to build and the wings never closed straight.
So we studied new ways of offering the armature an we came up with this.
Wings function perfectly well and it is really easy to assemble, it took me an hour to assemble the 4 wings to the armature you will see in the following pictures:

You guys are doing an awesome job!!!!! Your x-wing looks fantastic and if I didn't already have one that I'll probably never build I would be all over this one.

I hardly doubt the Resin would bend over time. This resin is used to replace metallic machinery broken parts, so it's very strong, plus, the steel wire is placed inside the mold before pouring the resin so they stay within the structure of the part. Plus, the pressure chamber constructs the resin making it even harder plus the advantaje of no bubbles inside so there is no week spot.

You had me at "armature" - AWESOME!

The hardest decision I will ever face - which version to paint this up as?!!!!

Red 5? Red 1?

Looks really great, but that is something I might be able to build myself...

So, will you guys be giving an option to buy the kit without armature?

Even for someone that normally follows a different galaxy and knows nothing about x-wing's this thing looks really impressive to me. The castings you've turned out look absolutely incredible!!
That tinted resin really highlights how sharp the castings are and even that looks awesome over the normally untinted resin.

I think i'm going to have to jump on board and into that galaxy far far away!! God help me! LOL

Incredible work on this one fella's!:cool
