Limited Run Mission Impossible Rabbit's Foot

PROTOTYPE COMPLETE:

Alright folks, I'm finally happy with all the details and engineering to make this fit nicely together. These pics are raw casts, obviously not finished pieces. But the flat gray actually gives you a pretty good sense of the forms.

Also, how about all that metal? I'm pretty please with the little tube holders and plates. Figuring out how to get as close as I could to the fittings used in the screen used prop was tricky. I think this looks great!

Also a couple pics of this new one next to my V1 for comparison.

I'm going to be adjusting a few tiny alignment issues and get this into paint and finishing. Once I post a fully finished prop I'll open this up for deposits and payments. So happy I fget to make this for some other nerds who appreciate this!

Stay tuned.

Absolutely spectacular work, Steve! ❤️

Finished is fine by me. Although I would totally be on board for a "kit" version if that ever becomes an option.

One note, the large ribbed nuts on either side of the red canister are not as dark as they look in the photos. They are a brighter chrome.

Hey folks, just a bump for the open slots. I suspect this is a one-time run of these 20 pieces.

A quick bump for anyone who was "interested" but hasn't paid a deposit. That will lock you in. I'm considering selling remaining spots elsewhere so keep your spot :)

Hey friends, I've had a couple ask if this project is moving forward despite not hitting 20 people. IT TOTALLY IS... I'm making 20 of these no matter what. I'm been printing and building components for the last two weeks. Mostly done with printing. I'm hoping to move into paint next week. Hoping to ship these in 4-5 weeks, but maybe less.

Heya Steve!

Out of scientific curiosity, would it be possible or practical for something of a Timelapse from initial printing to final assembly of one of these? I’d love to see your process in action along the way. There’s a healthy mix of technical and artistry at play that we don’t get to see often.

Just an idea! No expectation or obligation of course :)

That would be amazing. Let me think about that.

It's been a busy paint week. Also, I created a jig and process for creating those cool little narrow spots in the acrylic rods. I think they are called tamper rods. ... I thought about trying to sand them into a rod, maybe using a drill. That sounded like a pain. So I tried using my acrylic strip heater, wrapping it arounf the rod. In a couple minutes I was able to pull the rid like taffy creating exactly the right look. Then it was building a jig so I can replicate exactly the same effect 40 time!

So freaking cool, Steve!

Melting and stretching the acrylic looks dead-on to MI:3. I wonder what the real tamper rods are made of?

Out of curiosity and not a critique: The chrome paint on the screw caps on either side of the red canister seem a bit diffuse, and less metallic than the original. Is that a difference of like vacuum chrome plating on plastic versus a paint application?

I’m curious how one could achieve a more chrome-like appearance as a side project at home

It’s all looking gorgeous in any case. That red color is :chefkiss:

Real tamper rods are made from glass. They’re meant to be a fragile element that would break to show that someone has tried to enter the device.
