So it's fine to say a fan movie looks like trash based on a trailer (most fan films are trash) but if anyone says the same of clips/ trailers from Lucasfilm, they're not being fair by giving it a chance and watching the whole thing before making a judgement?

You can't have it both ways. People form strong opinions about a myriad of subjects all the time, and often do so on very little information and no one questions it. So let's be intellectually consistent enough to agree that it shouldn't matter who makes the content in question. Whether it's a fan or a Lucasfilm employee. If it sucks, it sucks. Period.

Let the work speak for itself. If there's any argument to be made it might be over making a more informed opinion, but that's it.

Oh no, they're 100% correct in their opinion that the trailer is bad.

And you're completely wrong that you can't judge a movie by it's trailer... The trailer is literally the hook to get people to watch it. You can't compare that to judging a book by it's cover either, because the cover is only part of the book trailer. The actual description on the dust jacket is the full trailer. And if that description is garbage, than why would you buy the book?

You reference Star Wars trailers, yet you don't include the context of the time. Yes, those old trailers wouldn't get me into that movie today.

But back in 1977 when that was the norm, it worked for a reason. And it DID work.

And I'll say here what I said on the youtube channel about it. The trailer is low budget looking, generic, and derivative. Right down to his tag line: "We made a thing..." was ripping off Jeremy Clarkson. That said, I praised their ability to actually make a movie, but that's were the praise ended.

Who the hell in their right mind thinks anyone would watch a movie based on a trailer that's lousy?

NOW, if you were to avoid trailers and just watch a movie because it was there, then that's fair. I'll in fact avoid trailers in many cases for many reasons. One is because you are partly right in that trailers may convey things that aren't indicative of being something interesting to watch. But that's usually ones that show nothing but action, or singular scenes...

This trailer however shared a LOT. Bad acting. Generic plot(s). Generic action scenes. Low budget cinematography styles. Things look cheap for a reason. And cheap things break quickly for a reason. They're cheap.
I’ve never seen you here before. Welcome to the RPF. Now, in regards to your post, you’re welcomed to your opinion. If that’s what you believe, then okay. Like I said to him, “You do you.” :)

I've posted several times.

Thank you for permitting me to an opinion on a forum dedicated to opinions.

"you do you" is a non argument.

The entirety of your response was to point out that I'm new, and therefore attempt to minimize my opinion. Followed by a passive aggressive welcome to a forum giving me permission to opine. Summing up with a non-argument concluding "you do you", that means: "I don't give a damn what you're saying".

I'm welcomed.

Well, it’s my first time encountering you anywhere on the forums, which is why I said I have not seen you here before and welcomed you to the RPF. Just trying to be friendly.. You do you is exactly what I mean. You do you. It’s not an argument. And I hope you a nice day/night, whenever you are. :)

This is the most passive aggressive response I've seen to a post that acknowledges to agree to disagree. Suggesting that "you do you" is a "non argument" hints that maybe you're looking for an argument? Assuming right out of the gate that CB2001 was being patronizing is pretty bold, no?

I've only had one interaction with you that I can recall and you were similarly vexed over a stupid joke that wasn't even directed at you but at a clip from a tv show.

Maybe you shouldn't assume everyone is trying to attack/ mock you.

Checking into the All Things Star Wars thread to see if anything has changed regarding the current state of the franchise…

(Looks around…)

OK, still “bad”.

Carry on…

Can you imagine what it would be like if we were discussing something that really mattered? Lol

It’s okay. If he feels that my welcome was meant to be a slight against him in some way when I wasn’t intending it to be, I apologize for that misinterpretation. I was just trying to be nice and welcome someone who I have never seen here at the forums before, and didn’t mean any ill will.

I don't think you have anything to apologize for and this is really a non issue, but I respect your take.

..but that's against RPF policy...

I have refrained from commenting on this show because I'm not watching any new SW, but good god that's awful. Both the costume and the metal detector. They could easily come up with some kind of scanner (Han in ESB...) and have them act like they are scanning and we'd get it.
A lot of people suspect that this show is being used to money laundering. Things like this makes that suspicion be plausible.

I would be looking in peoples noses before I looked into their laundry basket.
And I'd probably be checking their closets, their night stands, their garage.... And other places they have too. In fact, this scene pretty much describes what I'm thinking:

I have now tortured myself through The Acolyte. This show causes physical pain to watch. I thought the low point was reached with Book of Boba Fett, then came Ahsoka, now this. Disney Star Wars is a limbo dance of levels. But there are no dancers left because the limbo pole is already subterranean. It just can't get any worse. We're almost at a weekly Last Jedi level.

I was really concerned with how things would turn out after hearing so many people complain ad nauseum about the series. So far, the only boring part for me has been the back story nonsense. I hate flashback scenes to start, so that didn't help. Anything with child actors tends to bore me. Add witches into the mix...

But, when they got to the Jedi testing parts, things started getting interesting. And it's clear what the sister's hatred of the Jedi is born from. And since no one seems to worry about spoilers here, it's simply because the one sister, who was already clearly struggling with anger issues, felt the Jedi were responsible for taking her sister away. Then the silly burning of the entire witch homestead didn't help either. She lost her entire support system to deal with her issues.

Otherwise, I have no idea why people are going nuts over their nonstop hatred of the characters and story. Though I'm completely onside with the concern that there are hints of Jedi being portrayed as ********, that's pretty typically of the perception held towards people of privilege and power. So it's not a far fetched idea to present. I don't particular like it, but it is leaving it up to the viewer to decide.

As for the money laundering comments above... That's some wild conspiracy theorizing going on there without one scrap of actual proof to support a theory.

And just because I'm poking a little at it: Argument is not a negative word. It has many meanings, the bulk of being to convey an exchange of ideas. But many tend to simply take it in it's most negative definition.

We're well aware of the multiple definitions. It's the tone and wording of the rest of your response that was being called out for being dismissive and rude.

Though I did see you rewrite your response post as your original one was likewise just as condescending. I got the email notification of the original, so I'll at least acknowledge that you thought better of it and rewrote the entire thing.

Gotta give credit where it's due.
