Julien’s Upcoming Hero Phaser & Communicator Auction

As if this is not already the most awesome phaser ever, compare some of the landmarks to this one :).

There were just 4 correct? If we consider the two heroes that are now “verified”—the Jein and the one offered here by the Japanese collector—that leaves just two remaining, if we discount the previous ‘suspect’ auction. That unfortunately still leaves room for a lot of future monkey business. Hopefully this ups the bar of scrutiny.

My thing is if it looks correct & doesn't fall apart, that's all that matters.
It depends on what you are trying to accomplish:

IF you want something that looks good visually while not done accurately any number of methods could be employed.

IF you're trying to do something historically accurate then there's only one option.

Then there are folks like me who build because we love what we attempt to recreate and it's the love that's put into the build that matters most.

John’s approach on the p1 sounds like a cleaner and more secure way to attach the side rails, while not being consistent with the Jein and Finney, no?

For the purpose of a personal build or a prop kit, Long's method is definitely more secure. It allows for three gluing surfaces (top, front, rear) on each rail instead of just one, along with the shell itself friction-gripping the rails in place.

That said, Wah's rails have stayed in place on the two surviving heroes for nearly 60 years. The only glue which appears to have failed is on the TMOST P1 plexiglass meter. Not too shabby.

It's also a handy tell to spot a replica with.

That was one of the first details I looked at when the 2021 forgery came onto the scene. We had the Jein hero as a reference, with its single plant-on rail, and Velcro on the other side. That gave us a basis for the construction technique used on the other heroes.

This second phaser now confirms it.

The problem is that future forgeries may well take this into account. Which is why we need to be vigilant.
