I think the slot cut into the shells technique was a direct result of the JLong P1 kit that had that detail. I am not sure if there were examples before that.
These are from JLong, looks like they finally removed the battery in the P1; thank God!!
I think folks are tired of fakes....they need to make a fake Eveready to put in there.
All of the screen used midgrades I have examined in person have a "gun metal" or "dark grey" metallic finish....Ugh…
I have always hated that bronze handle color seen on some of the heroes…
I am so disappointed to see it verified as being on the Finney / MOST hero…

Though, it appears to be an inconsistent issue as some of the verified midgrades have a more gunmetal handle color.

Perhaps the Bonze color is part of a Season 3 repaint and didn’t apply in earlier seasons?
One can see a darker paint layer under the bronze paint of the handle (as well as the early season one white handle color):

(I am trying to find a way NOT to have to use that bronze color, you see…)
It is hard to let go of preconceptions of what we thought that communicator looked like but when you compare it to all of the screen caps you can tell that it is pretty much still how it was in the show. There are a few weird things on it that until you really look at the screen caps don't look right, then once you see them you know there was no way this was faked.Anyway, I think the phaser is in the bag, but I look forward to more images of the communicator. Since both props were apparently consigned by the same source, it’s not a huge leap to assume both are genuine, but it would still be nice to get a definitive match on the comm, as well.
I think Wah Chang updated the Heros and the studio prop department made the mid-grades. It is probably as easy as Wah chose to use bronze paint on the ones he painted and the prop department used gunmetal (looks close enough) on the ones they made. There is really no indication in screen caps that they were ever repainted after they were updated is there?Ugh…

That sounds very reasonable, especially since we now have two confirmed heroes with bronze paint...I think Wah Chang updated the Heros and the studio prop department made the mid-grades. Looks like they must have had JLong restore the Beta comm. A t-jet hub and the morie and ring was missing back in February.
I think the weird color in the JLong photo is a result of over saturating the photo. Here is what the TMOST looked like a few months ago which really closely matched the GJ when I saw it.
