Firefly/Serenity

I was originally slated to do the game board maps for 'Firefly: Fistful of Credits'. I thought you might like to see what goes into a design like this. I've included a rough of the map in progress and then a detail of the process of rebuilding something as simple as the floor carpet on the train.

Hello all. I am very new to the forum scene and I have been tasked with tracking down information that may not exist anymore. I have noticed in other forums that as time goes on, more and more information is lost regarding Serenity, the ship. What I am looking for are measurements/dimensions. A group of us have been tasked with finding out how much it will cost to build a 1:1 scale Serenity in our town as a tourist attraction. Before we can even begin to discuss materials, we need to know the dirty details nobody seems to have. After days of searching I have finally found overall dimensions which are 269 ft long, 170 ft wide and 79 ft high but that still leaves a LOT to be desired/open to interpretation. Does anyone, anywhere have this information or was this just something never really put to paper for the publics knowledge?

Anything helps!

The ship blueprints by Geoff Mandel are the best source for size and dimensions, hands down. He did exhaustive research on the subject.

Update: I am still awaiting a reply from 20th Century Fox but I did get approval and promised full technical support from Quantum Mechanix (QMX) as long as Fox approves.

This thread has been a blast from the past( its been a while since I spent anytime here), and the level of greatness is set way high. I seem to remember at Prop Circle( where some of us joined back in the day when The RPF only added members a coupe of times a year) the work of Commander Kerner and Whitefall especially inspired me. I think Whitefall created a map of Hera, and managed to slip in the Yosaf Bridge as an Easter egg. Kudos to you all for the great work, and now I have to revisit my notes and see what I can come up with

I had just downloaded some chinese character fonts then used translations from babelfish (I know not very good, but seeing as they were all single words for the most part I figured it would be pretty safe) then pasted the chinese words into Illustrator and chose the chinese font.
Did you remember that they read their characters right to left, not left to right as we read English?
...just in case you were not aware and wish to make it read more authentically.

there's also a difference between Quebecois french, and Parisian french. I took french in high school in the states, and when i was in living in canada, the french speakers used to laugh at me maniacally and eventually they fixed my french. then i went to france with one of my Quebecois french friends, and they stared at us like we were some kind of strange provincial, and were constantly correcting our french.

Once we got outside of Paris, people were much nicer. I'd rather be in Quebec, or France away from paris, than have anything to do with Paris. heh.

It matters not what language you speak.
Go anywhere else in the world and every English speaking person will sound different to you too. Guessing the French Polynesian are different again as well.
It is the same with Aboriginal's & Maori's. Each of their languages are close, but a little different. The same word may even have a few different meanings.

I guess it all comes down to intent.
It was wrong of the Parisian French to ridicule your French. Instead they should have been interested in comparing dialects. Obviously the Quebecois French originated in France, however they should be educated enough to know some of their ancestors colonised in Canada.
So you had no intent to be rude and purposely offend them, when speaking your newer dialect of French.
Some people simply do not think outside the box and are very closed minded. Try not to let those close minded individual's get to you. The world is a large place.

A few years back a number of contributing artists helped create a print props collection that we called the 'Priority Packet' and we shipped it out to participating 'Can't Stop the Serenity' charity screening cities around the world. We're going to do that again in 2020, so I'm reaching out to graphic designers wishing to contribute. The props can be anything that a pilot or crew might pick up while traveling the Verse such as ticket stubs, sales receipts, repair work orders, shipping paperwork, leaflets, travel brochures, port authority paperwork, postcards, etc.

The 'sky' is the limit.

Just drop me a line if you are interested.

Commander Kerner! There's a name I've not seen in a long time.
But here I am....... During the last few months I rearranged the garden in my backyard, spent some weeks in October and November with my fellow prop builders from the RPF, the Fleet Workshop and the TPZ in Florida and I've been busy writing articles of various props for a sci-fi magazine. And not to forget: Inbetween I worked on many props for my exhibition during a Maker Faire in Hanover, Germany.

Hi, Yellowjacket, way too long since I seen you and it sure is good to see you here.
I was just looking at some of the patches I got from you this week, those were good times at fireflyprops.
I still don't want to join facebook, so I look forward to seeing here more of your projects.

DUDE! It's so good to see you on here! I just sort of assumed with the folding of ffprops, I'd never run into you on the internet again.
I only checked this thread while looking for money props for a new ffprops on FB member, and am glad to see some activity.
I'll have to check back and re-read the whole thread.
In the meanwhile, take care and keep flying,
Mike

We have a Firefly Props group on Facebook. I know Facebook is a forbidden zone of bleh for many of you, but we do try to keep things alive. In fact, we discover new stuff all the time. Even when I think we've tapped the prop searching out, someone finds another little surprise.

Also, people still build and sell stuff. While the patch collecting has slowed way down, I'm still making new things and a couple of new fan films projects are looming, such as...

Shadows on the Wind - in post production
Heritage - post production
Bellflower has another piece coming out

All of these are working on edits and CGI presently and a proof of concept is in the works from another group, but I can't say anything more about that.

I am hoping to get my hands on any sort of paper props and have found some amazing work on the forums so far but am hoping to find more (particularly ship papers as i want to create a very aged looking set eventually) but really anything at all would be great;fruity oaty bar wrappers, bottle lables, to blueprints i have a lot of things id love to add to my little collection and i am finding inspiration for more everytime i look closer but the files just arnt there to look at.
If anyone can help me out in anyway i would really appreciate it.
