eFX Luke ROTJ Lightsaber Reveal Preorder Finally Coming Up

I just pre-ordered from BBTS aswell. Another great thing about BBTS is they offer a service for $2 where they pick the mintest box they can find from available stock. This and not charging your card till the stock is there convinced me they're a great all-round package.

I can't wait for this, this is my first lightsaber replica. I really dig the ROTJ saber - mainly because it gets so much screen time and looks so damn cool. I've been looking at getting one for years, but this really takes the cake.

I also love working replicas that are small and machined from metals, they have a durability and tool-like feel that makes them seem like they'd actually work.

It's going to be great when the Blu Ray comes out later this year and owning the reveal lightsaber, just like the one in the deleted scene.

Great time to be a Star Wars fan.

Despite the hype, it's not the saber used in that scene.
They used the regular Hero saber that's been seen on display at Magic of Myth. It was modified to have a sliding control box just for that scene.
No blinking lights or expanding parts.

The back story about the "Elstree" reveal saber:
Revisting the Elstree Props “Return of the Jedi” Star Wars Lightsabers: The $50,000 Question (Original or Replica?) : The Original Prop Blog – Jason DeBord's TV and Movie Prop Memorabilia Resource

It's still a cool prop, but it's not screen used or even production made.

Right you are, my memory of that deleted scene was a bit fuzzy due to seeing it a couple months back!

I still love the piece as a working prop, but I do wish it had a history of being filmed! It seems like rumours of there being a telescoping saber do exist, but they might be untrue?

You need to go back and rewatch the deleted scene. It clearly has blinking lights. Both red and green leds flash.

Forgot about that. Makes sense since they used red LED's on the prop.
Anyway, it's still not the "Elstree" saber.
Besides all the evidence it's a fake when you see the scene in HD you'll be able to tell by the grip spacing. The "Elstree" has really wide silver rings.

The activation strip on this saber slides toward the emitter revealing the crystal chamber.
The activation strip in the deleted scene slides toward the pommel and would block the crystal chamber.
Definitely not the same saber.

EDIT:
Just saw the Elstree prop in action and the activation strip could move in either direction so I guess that doesn't rule out the Elstree for the deleted scene.
Now I wonder if the eFX activation strip will also slide in either direction.

I could really care less if it is the saber used in the scene. As it turns out, none of our MR ROTJ Sabers were really the ones used in the movie. They were idealized versions and so it this one. I don't get it why evey 10 posts someone feels the need to point out something that all of have been told 100 times. It's a cool looking saber and I want it in my collection. The same goes for the Obi-wan if they ever come out with the reveal version of that, it was never on screen either, but it is still a great looking prop and I would love to have it.

Hey it's the RPF would you expect anything less? :lol

I passed on this but I will be all over the Obi-Wan!

I was really wanting the obi wan and had never really had too much interest in one of the high end Luke ROTJ even though I love all the old trilogy sabers, but there's something too irresistible about this one. This is a nice prop that actually seems like it could work. I think that's the allure to me. It's not just a total static prop. Its like it could have come from the star wars world minus the real blade.lol

My only concern now is that efx may change the specs, materials, or manufacturing processes between now and when the replica is shipped. While I am not expecting them to make any changes, the price they set does seem kind of low considering the amount of parts and machining required for each replica. There really is about 1000 ways this thing could be screwed up.

From the reveal web page:

*Product specifications, features, colors, etc. are subject to change without notice.

I am really hoping that the final piece is as near to the engineering prototypes that were seen previously as possible. As ex MR employees I am hoping that this replica will be at or hopefully surpass the quality standards set by Master Replicas. From what I can tell,as this will be my first efx replica, folks seem to be happy with their products so far.

In case someone didn't get this message from EFX, shipment is now expected in AUG/SEP due to quality issues.

Whaaaaaaaaat ???????????

August/ September....

First May/June, then, July, then Aug/Sept .... then 2013 !

I am worry about this quality issues .... Somebody know what this is about ?

Thanks !

Below is a qoute from the email sent out by eFX on why it is taking longer.

"Unfortunately, the machining of the many metal parts is taking a little longer than the vendor had originally estimated. And I have to admit that we have to take most of the blame for this issue because of our strict quality control requirements. We are requiring the machinist to hold to a tighter tolerance on the metal parts in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the moving parts. Thus, each part takes a little longer to machine and inspect."
