Doctor Who - A Journal of Impossible Things (Novelized Version)

Dang, it sucks that you guys both have yours printed out already. I really need to stop everything and just finish this off. I know I'll feel better for it in end.

Also, how much does Kinkos charge for printing something like this? What kind of paper is used? Never been to Kinkos before.

The one on the corner of Palo Verde and Atherton is charging me $1.75 to print it on glossy text. Not a PERFECT paper match, but I think it'll do fairly well. Unfortunately, I underestimated the kind of business Kinko's gets during the day (not just me) and I have to go back to pick up my print in 4 hours. Pictures will follow immediately afterward.

Holy crap ... 4 hours? That's nuts. Can't grumble at $1.75 though, I think I'll get mine done there too for that price.

Seriously, looking forward to those pictures :D

After we both have our books printed we should put them side by side in the same shot for comparison. Let me know if you want to meet up some time.

Sounds like a plan to me.

When I do get mine printed up, I'm also going to try and get pictures of it in the same angles as the book from the show, so I can photo comparisons with that too.

...And I'm left all by my lonesome here on the East Coast. Who will I compare books with?

About the only place in California business ever takes me is San Jose, so I don't think I'll ever get to compare. Maybe I'll just print all of my different versions and compare them. haha

How much longer till your 4-hours are up, Risu?

8:30 PM local time. Should have it back home and trimmed by about 9:15. I'm passing the time by looking at my new River Island 11th Doctor close enough boots. I figure I can maybe squeeze another hour out of that activity, then move on to some Firefly.

Haha, I really wanted to cosplay as 11 too, but I can NOT find those effing PS shirts anywhere. I've searched and searched. It seems nowhere online stocks them anymore. I'm gutted as that is probably the hardest part of the costume to do.

Magnoli and Steve Ricks will both be making replicas of those shirts soon. Originals can still be found OCCASIONALLY on certain places, like yards full of junk...... if you know what I mean...... like right now for example...... Unfortunately, what I found from watching the show is that the real shirts (none of the 3 variants found so far) don't match up to the screen used. I think they were custom made from the fabric of the shirts, much like Tennant's suit jacket came from pants. The collar is the biggest tell for me. The PS shirts have a dorky stupid looking collar on them that's very short while the one Smith wears looks normal. There are other things, but I won't get into it in the paper props forum.

That being said, I actually don't care to dress up as 11. I love my Ten costume too much and have invested WAAAAAAAY too much money into it at this point to not wear it every second I'm at a convention. I just liked the boots.

I do really love 10's suit costume but I really love the professor look that 11 has. Both of the shirts in the "yards of junk" are mediums which would be great if I knew how to sew and they weren't 99 bucks lol. Maybe I'll get lucky when I go to look at a few used clothing stores or something. I'll get one someday.

I did want to buy your 10 Magnoli suit on the bay. Going by the description, we're the same size. It's just a damn shame I have zero money right now. Hopefully whoever got it enjoys the hell out of it.

Actually, the Magnoli suit I sold was made WAY too big for me. So much bigger in fact that there wasn't a damn thing I could do to make it fit. It was originally a 46 inch chest, I got it down to 42 and it couldn't go any lower. I ordered it in a 39 and I'm now a 38. Also, PM coming your way.

I won't mention it again then haha, but that is some seriously s***** business running.

I think you're picking up the print out right now, gonna put my kiddo to bed and check back to see if the update is posted :D

Yeah, I'm sitting here waiting for an update too!

Have you considered Spoonflower.com for creating the fabric for the shirt, WM? Any good tailer should be able to make you a custom shirt out of it after you get it printed.

Steve Ricks will be using spoonflower for his copies of the shirt. The real problem with that is that (in my opinion) Spoonflower doesn't have a single fabric type that feels nice enough on the skin to wear as a shirt. He'll be using the same stuff I use for my Baker neckerchiefs, which is as good as it gets. The other tricky part is getting the back right. I don't think a tailor could copy it without an original in hand.

Anyhow, here it is:

Notes for next time: Make the spine 1/16" thinner, trim it AT Kinko's, not with scissors at home.

I have actually thought about spoonflower (for 10's suit and 11's shirt), given the high res screengrabs I have, I could make a pretty good pattern for the fabric. We'll see. I won't be doing it either of them any time soon. Maybe if I go to any conventions next year I'll have either one or the other done for then. I might also be able to buy that Steve Ricks fabric given I have the money at the time. Either way, I know I have options if I can't find the shirt.

Thanks for the heads up on the 1/16 on the spine info. I'll be sure to cut it at the shop too, either that or on a big blade page cutter thing, as I know a few people who have one. It looks really awesome. Seeing both of your covers make me really want to finish mine. I'm almost done. So close I can taste it :D
