Black Series Darth Vader Helmet Mod Thread!

Great upgrades...I see this helmet like a 1:1 version of the small small Riddell Vader Reveal helmet.Not really accurate..but nice to have.I still have one in my collection.
As I was young my dream was to scan and cast this small Riddell one in 1:1 that I can wear it.

That would be kinda interesting.

Now we're getting somewhere. I originally just extended the neck and fitted real metal grills but the sight of that HUGE Hasbro chin vent finally got to me and I had to shrink it. I've gone for the sharp-cornered ANH look. Just got the black parts to paint before I fit the grills and put it all back together (again!).

Outstanding work DarkLyte. It's astonishing what a bit of work can do to make these BS helmets look fantastic. No, it's never going to be accurate because there are too many fundamental things that are 'off' but, my word, they can certainly be made into glorious display pieces. Hats off to you Sir!

One question, is it a trick of the light or have you used a slightly more silvery gunmetal on the top section than the neck?

I'm champing at the bit to get mine finished but 'life' is slowing things down at the moment. I've got a couple of dome mods planned as well so I may be at this a while yet!!!

Thank you!! And I agree. These helmets definitely have some potential if you're willing to put the work in.

It's definitely the lighting that made it look that way. I used the same can of Gun Metal paint on all the different sections.

I just picked up one of these helmets in the clearance aisle at Walmart for $49. I wish I still had my house where I had a workshop to tinker with stuff, this thread has been inspiring. I think the only mods I can see doing now is maybe putting in red lenses, change the tusks, polish with Ren Wax and call it good.

I'm still blown away by the work Darklyte did, simply breathtaking. I can't recall, was the dome reworked? Granted, I'm no Vader expert, but in my humble opinion if someone did rework the dome from scratch that would even take this Black Series helmet to an even higher level than already achieved.

Here's a quick Photoshop I worked up, nothing fancy...just copied a ESB dome on top of Darklytes amazing work to illustrate some of the differences. I realize the angles are slightly different, but I still think it illustrates some cool differences.

Anyways, just food for thought!

Thank you so much! The dome was not reworked however I definitely agree that it needs to be. I may re-visit the project one day and mod it but for right now I'm going to put some focus on other projects. I've been staring at the Vader helmet for too long haha!
