Alien / Nostromo Uniforms

I would be able to make cheaper lacing if somebody would help me source the correct material. If I have to do it I don't want to use "just any" material. My friend sent me a piece of the original lacing, I only need the right stuff to get copies of it

About Magnoli shirt, I would just wait for somebody else to offer them. I just don't like them and I agree with what kane2122 said even concerning the Indy shirts.

Whoever got the jacket, sorry for any evil-eye that might fall on you. I partecipated to that bidding and didn't even have time to put a higher bid. Some darn good sniping there, hats off.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that most of the people bidding for these things should be posting here...sorry if anyone else was after the grey one. I was slightly miffed at being sniped for the green so turned my attention to the grey and upped my budget.

I count myself very lucky, as I had set a target bid of 97 quid at first and then thought, "Well, if I really want the thing, I might as well go over a hundred..." so bumped it up very late on.

Wow, it has been great going over this thread. Thanks to all who have contributed; lots of good information. I have a Nostromo outfit of my own; I think it's good quality, it's not screen accurate but not meant to be either. My fiancee is going to get one for convention hopping, and this thread has convinced me to up my game some.

And here is a photo of the uniform:

Hopefully I will be able to fabricate some lacing for the sleeves.

Charlie great outfit, I'm in the process of making a Brett outfit myself........ could easily imagine you chewing the fat with Parker and Brett in some sleazy dive on Thedus....drinking a few cans of Weylan Yutani's finest and checking out Parkers extensive collection of adult literature.
All you need now is some beer and grease stains and a few ciggie burns.
Great job!

Thank you for the compliments, Kane. I would love to find a good replica can of Aspen beer, but I haven't gotten a source yet. Also, the jacket is weathered fairly well, some staining and fraying that is hard to see from far away. The pants are way too clean, but I want them to have a worn and weathered (vice actually just soiled and dirty) look, so I've been hesitant to play around with them. SilverDragon, I brought a pair of white Dickies' painter pants, 4 yards of fabric, and a several references pictures to a very talented seamstress I know. A week later she handed me the pants. I was stunned. I can show close up pics of the pants, shoes and jacket if anyone would like. (And unfortunately, my seamstress moved away. I have no idea where. I wish I did, I'd have her make me another set of pants!)

Charlie

Charlie, that seamstress should be applauded, she's done a tremendous job recreating the nostromo crew pants! pity she's moved!.....from what I can see more screen accurate than some Professionally made ones, and I bet you didn't have to pay a hefty price for them? and they only took a week to make....my god that's amazing!......it takes me that to sew on a patch!
A few close-up shots would be great when you get the chance.

Charlie regarding the Aspen beer cans these were available to purchase about 2 years ago over on Propsummit...
The guy did a limited run of 60 odd? using original 16 oz vintage cans with screen accurate labels. After 3 runs he called it quits! ( you can read about it over in the Alien props section Page 2 on Propsummit...) I checked to see if he had any cans left but had sold his last one and would not be making any more!

JT Parker had a few to sell on his website, but he sold off all of his Alien items and closed the website.

The Propstore of London sold a original screen used can for over £2000 in 2009.
If you could recreate the label artwork you could have your own adhesive labels printed and buy a vintage can from ebay?

There is an Aspen label file in one of the paper prop threads here. We stuck them on Red Bull and beer cans for Dcon2010, it made drinking even more fun. :lol

OK, well here are some closeups. And please, before I jumped all over, NOT SCREEN ACCURATE!! Wasn't made to be. I made a screen accurate ESB Boba Fett. After that, I said to hell with screen accuracy, and I make what I like in a manner I feel is good. So I put that out upfront...:)

These are PF Flyer Center Hi, white leather. I used white plastic circles I got from Joann's Fabric and some nylon tube webbing (it's actually a cylinder of fabric that I flattened, also from Joanns) to make the lacing. Basically, I cut the tubing to strips, folded it over, and used a soldering to melt a hole through it. Then I used 3/8" post screws (from Lowes) to secure the webbing. I had previously painted the post screws white. I used a razor knife to cut off the green label and the side circle. You can faintly see the holes for the side circle stitching, but they're invisible from any kind of distance. Also, the laces USED to be weathered nicely. Then my cat (not named Jones) ate the laces. I had to put new ones on so they are too clean.

Not accurate at all. These are just Dickies white painters pants. They are 65/35 poly/cotton. I used the same type of material for the additional pockets and such, but it doesn't quite match.

Knee pad. It's not bad. It could be padded a little more. The edges a bit frayed. It does have the material strip going around the back.

Right lower leg pocket. It velcros closed.

Integrated side pocket. It came with the pants.

This a little strip of material sew on at the cuff. I didn't even know it was supposed to be there until the seamstress pointed it out on the photo.

The pants aren't perfect, but literally, I handed the seamstress the workpants, some material, 2 photos of Dallas and a photo of Parker.

Here are some closeups of the jacket:

That red stripe on the sleeve is the last remnants of a Third Class Petty Officer crow. This used to be my (OLD!) Navy utility jacket.

Kane, I couldn't find the Aspen beer label either. I will check the forum a bit more.

Charlie, thanks for those great closeup shots! love the whole ensemble! your crew pants show that you don't have to spend a fortune to get great screen accuracy, that lady did a top notch job!
That navy jacket of yours looks fairly scuffed up and well used already and looks great beside the tropical shirt, fits perfectly into the Alien universe. And those boots look the part too! nicely scuffed and worn in, love the clever use of the nylon tubing and screws to make the D-ring holders.
Whatever makes you happy is the main thing!

I've looked for that damn elusive Aspen can label in the paper props section still can't find it?

Thanks Kane! I think it came out really well for a first time job. It's become a stable of my con going, cause its lightweight and easy to pack. It's nice to get out of armor for a while. :) I'm still going to do some upgrading to get "closer" to screen accuracy. Once I start looking at costume for a while, I get that itch to tweak things. Since I have to build a whole new one from scratch, I'm going to take the opportunity to up things. I've got my eyes of a few of the props the community makers here produce. :)

I've still had no luck with the Aspen label either. :(

Charlie

Here's the label in question, not 100% accurate but very nice for the price. :) I don't know who it originated with but it has been posted in paper props threads here and on Propsummit.

Does anyone know a good source for the small black W-Y wing patches? The kind that Ripley had on her flight suit.

Charlie

Charlie~try Intergalactic Trading on ebay; they also have the small green Weylan Yutani wings, which are perfect for Company white boxers.
Seth--and Division 6; thank you for sharing the Aspen Beer label!:)

That's the one I did.
It needs to be redone but I haven't had the time or inclination to do it.

Thanks division 6 for creating this Aspen beer label! I missed out when the replica cans were for sale!...made into adhesive labels and stuck onto a vintage can, you would need sharp eyes to spot the differences between this and the screen used version?
Cheers!

The barrels need to be rotated and wheat (think arrow fletching) added to the end.
And the shading on the bottom ribbon needs to be striped, maybe a few other small things.
The wheat on the original is more cartoon looking.

I'll tinker with it and see what I can come up with.
