Alien / Nostromo Uniforms

All my pieces have arrived and I'm sewing away :)
Thanks the Jeff, Randy and Mike I'll have a jacket I've wanted for 30 years!

I'm leaving mine the OD green as it works great with the laces, I also used white piping as I couldn't find pink that wasn't "Barbie pink" I did wash it with two red shirts but no luck.

Next I have to figure out the best was the weather it down a little. Just washing the jacket helped alot as it was brand new!
Pics once it's done.

I'm looking at mine now and to me it looks a little "pinkish"...more like a light flesh tone.

Not "ecru," "bone," or "off-white?"

:)

I think it's awesome that Eskimos apparently have 500 words for "snow" and Americans have the same number for "not really white."

Seriously, I have to say you're right: a light flesh tone is probably closer than ivory. But I brought my shirt to the craft store, and matched it pretty closely, after initially panicking over just being able to find only Barbie pink.

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:thumbsup

I'm waiting on my Randy laces so I'm fixin' to lay the iron to Mike's NOSTROMO iron-on and I'm as nervous as I was when I first put the thing into the royal blue dye.

And that worked out OK, and I've done some tests with the W-Y wings Mike thoughtfully included and I think I have the hang of it, but... :)

I recently put a set of those iron on Nostromo letters on a jacket, and found that I had to iron them significantly longer than it states on the instruction sheet.
Not sure if the instructions are designed for one of those big clothes presses or not, but if I remember right it states 15-20 seconds, and I had to go at least 3 minutes for them to adhere well.
This wasn't on a MK III jacket, just a different cotton jacket I have.
The lettering came out great, though.

This one was a undersaturated green grey, possibly not the charcoal colour your friend was talking about.... get one to show us! :)

I'd love to, just lack the funds just now as the Silly Season draws nearer. Only two more pay packets to go!
There's an olive version on eBay UK for the same price and with the same images as the ones on offer here: http://www.silvermans.co.uk/Product...RK+3+COTTON+SHORT+JKT/ItemId/364/Default.aspx

At the store, they do the charcoal colour option. Seems like a good deal.

Wayne do yourself a favour check out www.hard-wear.co.uk (Driffield Yorkshire) this site deals in real MK3 jackets, these are the most recent versions in a dark olive with black zips, and sell for £35 + P+P. The prices on Silvermans are a joke! £90 for a copy ( and that was reduced from £150) and £350 for a real MK3 "sheesh"! the most I paid on ebay was £20 anything more for a surplus jacket thats been well used is robbery.
The official MOD specs for the MK3 jacket gives grey/green sage/green as colour description ( olive/dark present day) these colours will vary in each jacket due to age washing, water repellant and the company that produced the jacket ( 3 MOD contractors). These jackets date back to the late 1960's when the RAF started to introduce the green colour scheme for all its flight gear to comply with the introduction of Nato standardization around 64-65. Prior to this the MK3's along with most of the RAF's fligth gear was blue/grey (purple/taupe) these MK3 jackets were the ones used by Kane and Dallas in Alien and nowadays are as rare as hens teeth.
So save yourself a small fortune and check out the hard-wear site, any of our overseas buds give it a look they generally have the larger 7-8 sizes/jackets.

Y'know, Kane, I might do that (when their site's working again). My interest in the jacket is getting less casual every week.

Good choice on the foot ware! I still need to modify my PF Flyers. Man, those pants look nice. LoL!

Ok, so first off, INCREDIBLE thread, i've always wanted to do a jacket, I've been going over the thread and maye I missed it, but is ripleys grey jacket, a jacket or a uniform 1 piece?

Those PF Flyers are just out of the box. The second I find the right small plastic D-rings, though, I'm nodding the eyelets.

Thanks again, Randy; that's some top-notch work you do!
